Ah, the disappearing personal hotspot. It can be frustrating when your personal hotspot has vanished from your iPhone, and nobody knows why the personal hotspot suddenly disappears from the iPhone, but it’s easy to fix. Here’s what to do when your personal hotspot has disappeared from your iPhone, and how to find that missing personal hotspot.

We have experienced the disappearing hotspot ourselves, and we know how inconvenient it can be when you rely, as do we, on tethering your laptop through your iPhone. In fact, we never use public wifi when out and about, we always tether to our iPhone’s personal hotspot, so this function is a must for us.

Your personal hotspot setting may have disappeared completely from the settings area of your iPhone, or it may be greyed out so that you can’t turn it on, like this:

Go into the settings area of your iPhone, and click on “General”.

Now click on the “Cellular” settings option, which is usually about the fifth option down, just below the “Siri” settings.

Once you are on the Cellular page, you will see the option to enable your personal hotspot.

Once you have enabled your personal hotspot, your vanished persoal hotspot setting will reappear, or if you were able to see it but it was greyed out, it will now be accessible.

  1. My iPhone Settings menu is different with Cellular and Carrier under Bluetooth. Then, when I go into Cellular and try to “Setup Personnal Hotspot” it says “Call Optus!”
You must not be on iOS 7?
