Who laughs last undoubtedly laughs longest. If Fortnite tricked you or your little one into making unauthorized in-game purchases and consequently locked your account for disputing the same, it’s payback time. Ironically, Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, lost in a legal Battle Royale after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) compelled the game maker into a $520 million settlement in refunds and penalties. Over 37 million Fortnite players are eligible for a slice of the $245 million refund money.

Who Is Eligible for a Fortnite Refund?

Since September 19, 2023, the FTC has been emailing millions of eligible Fortnight players about claiming a refund. If you’ve received an email about the same, you probably qualify for a Fortnite refund. If not, and you trust you deserve a refund, you may have to wait for a month (or two) to receive your email as the FTC continues to reach out to eligible gamers.

That said, you must be 18 or older to fill out the refund claim form. Underage gamers must ask their parents or guardians to complete the form on their behalf. You must also meet any of the following eligibility requirements:

• You purchased unwanted in-game items between January 2017 and September 2022.

• Your child or anyone under your guardianship used your credit card without your consent for in-game purchases between January 2017 and November 2018.

• Epic Games locked your Fortnite account for disputing unauthorized charges with your credit card company.

Applying for a Fortnite Refund

Once you’ve determined your eligibility, applying for a Fortnite refund is straightforward. The good news is that your Fortnite account remains intact. Epic Games won’t victimize you for claiming what is rightfully yours.

You only need to:

• Visit https://www.fortniterefund.com/File-a-Claim
• Fill out the claim form and enter the claim number found in the FTC email
• Alternatively, enter your Epic Account ID (Follow these steps to find your ID)

When to Expect Payment and How Much You’ll Receive

While Epic Games has agreed to refund eligible gamers, you should not expect your refund this year (2023). Payments will begin after January 2024, once all claims have been reviewed and validated.

$245 million is certainly a substantial amount of money. However, refunds depend on several factors, including the number of approved claims. More valid claims can reduce the expected refund amount. No matter how it goes, you will receive your refund via check or PayPal. You have until January 17, 2024, to claim your refund.
