Twitter is down for the count (although it is now coming back up for some people), and it wasn’t a planned outage. According to Twitter itself, “Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.”
The problem began at about noon EST today (Thursday, June 21st). The site started coming back up for some users about an hour later.
[UPDATE: Twitter is down again, at least for us, at 2:48 EST.]
So far, Twitter has not shared what caused the issue, only acknowledging the issue itself.

Perhaps more interesting has been people’s responses to being unable to access Twitter. While we suspect that people are more addicted (for lack of a better term) to Facebook, and would be more at a loss without being able to access Facebook, plenty of people were unhappy at not being able to get to their Tweets.
Did being Tweetless for a period of time affect you? If so, how?
