How to Give a $5 Tip to Your Amazon Delivery Driver on Amazon's Dime

Yes, it’s true! Right now you can tip your Amazon delivery driver $5 for free, with Amazon covering the cost of the tip. And you can do it right from the Amazon website, with your browser – or you can do it through your Amazon Echo with Alexa. Here’s how to tip your Amazon delivery driver while taking $5.00 out of Jeff Bezos’ pocket. (Ok, actually it doesn’t come out of his pocket, in fact Jeff Bezos isn’t even the CEO of Amazon any more, Andy Jassy is, but we digress.)

Now it may be that there are certain delivery drivers who you won’t want to tip (like those Amazon delivery drivers who show up with an earbud shoved firmly in each ear so that they can’t hear you when you’re trying to tell them where to put the packages). But plenty of Amazon delivery drivers are deserving, perhaps especially those who are using their own cars to do thankless gig work to generate a little extra cash for the holidays. So here’s how to do it.

NOTE: This only works with the last Amazon delivery driver who delivered your most recent delivery! The good news is that you can do it each time you get a delivery!

How to Tip Your Amazon Delivery Driver Through Your Amazon Echo

If you have an Amazon Echo, it’s even easier to tip your Amazon delivery driver! You just have to say “Alexa thank my driver.”

This Promotion Only Lasts Until 1,000,000 Drivers Have Been Tipped

The good news is that this applies to any driver who delivered a package from Amazon to you.

The bad news is that after the one-millionth driver gets tipped the program switches from a $5 tip to a simple “Thank you.”

So how can you tell whether your driver is getting a $5 tip? If you get in under the 1million cut-off, and if you did it via your Amazon Echo, Alexa will respond with “Glad you enjoyed your most recent delivery. Since you shared your appreciation with your driver, as a special thanks this holiday season, your driver will receive an extra $5 at no cost to you. This promotion is for a limited time only.”

On the other hand, if the limit of one-million tips has been reached, Alexa will instead say “Thank you for your appreciation! We’ll share your thanks with your driver.”
