Google Search is introducing a new feature called “Perspectives”, a specific filter designed to bring you information sourced from individuals on forums and social media platforms. This innovative tool appears on qualifying search queries that could be enriched by the experiences and insights of others, supplementing the existing array of tabs including Images, Maps, and various topic-based filters.

‘Perspectives’ aggregates a variety of media formats, encompassing both long and short videos, images, and written posts shared across discussion boards, Q&A websites, and social media platforms. This new feature will allow you to access content from a wide array of sources including YouTube videos of varying lengths, posts from TikTok, Reddit, Quora, and more. YouTube Shorts and longer videos offer the added advantage of being viewable directly within the Search interface, while content from other sources will open full pages as usual.

On mobile, the ‘Perspectives’ feature will be presented in a scrollable feed with content displayed side-by-side in distinct cards. Each card will contain additional details about the content creators, such as their name, profile picture, or information about the popularity of their content.

One particular query that triggers the ‘Perspectives’ filter is “What to eat in [city]”, as observed by the Google team. Another example provided by Google during their I/O event was the query, “How to make friends in a new city”. The ‘Perspectives’ tab presents a page of results that feature advice from other individuals, including personal anecdotes shared via videos, and tips from forum thread commenters.

In addition to being accessible through the new dedicated tab, these ‘Perspectives’ can also be found within the Top Stories feature, which was launched earlier this year alongside the ‘About this Author’ feature.

As announced at the I/O event, Google plans to roll out an update in the coming months that will enhance Search’s understanding of content generated from personal or expert perspectives. This will further refine the ranking of such useful information on Search. Google is working diligently to ensure that the Search engine becomes more proficient at unearthing these “hidden gems”. This latest feature underlines Google’s ongoing commitment to making the web more accessible and relevant to its users.
