The digital realm is teeming with applications designed to boost productivity and streamline work processes. A new entrant to this productivity toolbox is the Mac app ‘Day Progress’, which aims to help you visualize the remaining hours in your day. This simple yet powerful concept might be the productivity boost you need – provided you can handle the constant reminder of the ticking clock.

Spearheaded by developer Sindre Sorhus, the main objective of ‘Day Progress’ is to give users an easy-to-grasp view of the time remaining in their day. It sits conveniently in the macOS Menu Bar, keeping the passing day perpetually in the user’s sightline. Upon first launching the app, you define your day’s beginning and end times. After this setup, an icon starts showing up in your Menu Bar, representing the progression of your day.

Clicking on the icon gives you a precise readout of how much time is left until the day’s end, be it your workday or school day. If you prefer a continuous reminder, you can opt to display the remaining time right next to the icon in the Menu Bar. As the developer suggests, this serves as a visual cue to stimulate motivation and promote efficient time management.

Day Progress comes with several customization features. Users can select from different icons, such as a progress bar or a pie chart, and switch between displaying the remaining time as a percentage or in hours and minutes. An additional feature allows users to set Day Progress to launch automatically at login whenever the Mac is powered on.

While the concept of Day Progress can be a potent tool for some, it might be a source of anxiety for others, as the ticking countdown could potentially increase stress levels. Nonetheless, there is undoubtedly a cohort of users who would appreciate and benefit from such a timekeeping tool.
