Facebook Rolls Out New Look – Now with Blue Corners

Facebook seems to fear commitment even more than George Clooney. They have changed their look again, this time shunting all the rest of your friends’ status updates over to the right-hand margin, and featuring front and center “top stories” (status updates).

Perhaps what is ‘newest’ is the “blue corners”. Facebook explains that the blue corner “marks a story we think will be interesting to you.” But more interesting is that you can, apparently, train the Facebook blue corners.

Here is the new look – note the blue corner:

Now, you can click on the blue corner, and “unmark” the ‘story’ as a top story.

And you can click on a white corner to turn it blue, and mark the story as a top story.

As we mentioned, your friends’ regular status updates have now been shunted over to the side:

..but the cool thing about this is that if you click on any one of the updates in the sidebar, it pops out the related source. So, if it is a regular status update, it pops out the update so that you can “like” or comment on it:

If it is someone “liking” something, it pops out a button for you to ‘like’ it too:

And finally, if someone comments on someone else’s status, it pops out the entire comment thread – we actually really like that:

So how about you? What do you think of the new Facebook interface?

  1. Seems nobody likes Facebook’s new coat now. Do Facebook care? Not a bit! They have become too big to care, like a juggernaut going over a cliff and the driver has discovered the AIR BRAKES are not what they said they were. About 3 years ago, my wife was trying to find old school friends and suggested that they put in a search filter for maiden names for women. This was ignored. Maybe in Zucker’s world women are not important enough.

  2. … and, yes; I understand their fear of commitment: It’s simple; they must surely know (or at least their parents, … or others close to them) that one day they should, … and will be committed. Marriage and school aren’t the only useful institutions, and although BelleView may now be a resort, many institutions aren’t.

  3. Well, goody; we can train a blue corner. What I’d like to know is when we will be able to train FB to do what we want. It’s like a stupid dog dropping its poo all over our yard, that barks all night, that chases cars and kids on bikes. All irritations, but the owner wants us to be excited because this mutt has a new coat.
