In response to the online killing of an online character who was part of an online group, by members of a rival online group, in an online game, members of the dead character’s group retaliated by murdering a member of the rival group – in real life.
The real life murder, of a gamer as yet identified only as “Albert”, occurred last week in the city of Ufa, Russia, after members of the “Platanium Clan” in an online game (which game is not yet clear), ‘killed’ a virtual member of the – and we’re not making this up – “Coo Clocks Clan”.
The Platanium Clan is made up primarily of older, experienced gamers, most over 30 years of age, including Albert, who was 33. The Coo Clocks, on the other hand, are mostly younger, many of them just in their 20s. The Coo Clock who allegedly killed Albert was just 22.
Even now, the Coo Clocks are harrassing Albert’s family. His sister, whom sources say the Coo Clocks have also threatened to kill, says that she is afraid to turn on her computer.
Said Albert’s siser, “I think they have confused the game and reality.”
