Many people thought that the Kindle Fire would be the iPad killer, and while the Kindle Fire has dipped into the iPad market, it turns out that the iPad’s biggest competitor is its own cousin, the iPhone 4S.
According to IHS iSuppli Market Intelligence, the release of the iPhone 4S caused Apple acolytes to have to choose where to spend their Apple-earmarked money, choosing between the iPad and the iPhone 4S, and many of them chose the iPhone.
“The rollout of the iPhone 4S in October generated intense competition for Apple purchasers’ disposable income, doing more to limit iPad shipment growth than competition from the Kindle Fire and other media tablets,” explained IHS Senior Manager of Tablet and Monitor Research, Rhoda Alexander.
“We never want to hold back one of our teams from building the absolute greatest thing,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook, “even if takes some sales from another product area.”
According to Alexander, “The surge in non-iPad shipments in the fourth quarter was achieved at considerable financial cost, with sharp price reductions across most of the competing Android tablets and actual product giveaways {Ed. note: such as the free Barnes & Noble nook with New York Times subscription} from a number of vendors as part of promotional efforts for other electronic products.”

I didn’t buy either, I bought an ipod touch 4th gen 32gb instead. I find it superior to both the ipad & iphone both. All the ipad is is a bigger version of the ipod touch & no extra features, or anything worth mentioning if there is anything. Here’s where I rank the three products: 1. Ipod Touch 4th G 2. Iphone 3. Ipad…how I like these products, 1. Ipod touch 4gth g 2. Iphone 3. Everything else apple made 4. crappy ipad…only thing that would of saved the ipad in my ratings is if it was made like an ipod touch, BUT had an OS on it like Mac OSX panther/etc. and could be used exactly like a realy mac computer if you wanted to. Forget the ipad, if you want to buy something that expensive, buy an ipod touch instead, or just get a REAL laptop with windows on it & good graphics for the same price.
