If you’re asking yourself “How Do I Use Google Pay?”, here’s our “plain-english, foolproof, layperson’s guide to setting up, sending, and receiving money using Google Pay, that is not financial advice”. Couldn’t think of a catchier name, but hey – it gets the job done.

Google Pay is a digital wallet, and an online payment system developed by Google. The wallet is linked to your Google account, and enables you to send money to friends, shop online, and in stores.

Unlike most digital wallets, the app makes it possible to receive money directly into your bank account, saving you the time it takes to transfer money from your digital wallet to your bank account.

To use Google Pay, you start by downloading the app and installing it on your smartphone. Once you download and install it, link the app to your Google account, and provide your phone number for verification.

To send money using the app, you need to set up your Google Pay balance by providing your address, the first and last name, and the last four digits of your SSN, as well as your date of birth.

There is also the option of adding a debit or credit card. To add cards, tap the “add credit or debit card” button, then use your phone’s camera to scan the details of your card.

When someone sends you money via the app, you will receive a text message or email from Google notifying you of the money sent, and how to claim it.

In the notification message, you are instructed to tap the Claim Money button. It will open the Google Play app or website. You have the option of claiming the money to your Google Pay balance, or transferring the money to your bank account.

One of the advantages of using this online wallet is that the recipient does not need to have the app in order to receive payment. Instead, the transfer can be completed via the Google website using their email account.

Apart from sending or receiving money, Google Pay helps you to complete financial tasks easily such as saving money, paying employees, and checking how much you spent on groceries.

When you open the app, you are directed to the Google Pay Home Tab. From there, you can access the Pay button, see past transactions, and find offers.

Google Pay has a couple of interesting features that help users find deals and discounts as well as track their spending habits. The first feature is known as the Explore tab. It shows you available cashback offers and discounts which go back into your Google Pay account.

The second feature, labeled “the Insights tab”, allows you to add a credit card or bank account. The tab also helps you to keep track of your financial habits, as it shows reports of your financial activities.

Though Google Pay is not yet popular, the app packs great features you can use to send and receive payments, find discounts, and track where your money is going.
