The Whole Facebook “I Like it on the”… Explained

If you are on Facebook (and according to the most recent stats, over 500 million of you are), then you may have noticed that many of your Facebook friends (mainly women) have posted a status update that reads “I like it on the floor”, or “I like it on the kitchen table” or “I like it on the couch”… you get the idea. You may be disappointed to learn that these ladies aren’t talking about where they like to get frisky. Rather, they are talking about…

…where they like to put their purse or handbag when they get home.

Why, for Pete’s sake, are they posting where they like it all over Facebook?

Because a chain Facebook message is telling them to, to help raise awareness of breast cancer.

HOW exactly this is supposed to raise awareness of breast cancer is beyond us. But there you have it.

Last year they all exposed their bra color on Facebook for breast cancer awareness (at least that arguably has something to do with breasts, if not cancer).

Here is the chain email that is behind this year’s “I like it on the” meme:

Remember last year the post about what color bra you were wearing at the moment? The purpose was to increase awareness of October Breast Cancer Awareness month. It was a tremendous success and we had men wondering for days what was with the colors and it made it to the news. This year’s game has to do with your handbag/purse, where we put our handbag the we get home for example “I like it on the couch”, “I like it on the kitchen counter”, “I like it on the dresser” well you get the idea. Just put your answer as your status with nothing more than that and cut n paste this message and forward to all your FB female friends to their inbox. The bra game made it to the news. Let’s see how powerful we women really are!!! REMEMBER – DO NOT PUT YOUR ANSWER AS A REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE- PUT IT IN YOUR STATUS!!! PASS THIS TO EVERY LADY YOU KNOW :-) send it to random girls so it can be passed on to everyone!

We find it more than a little disturbing that this is so clearly aimed at men, and at using sexual innuendo to pique their interest.

But the bigger issue is this: how is this helping further the cause of breast cancer awareness? We’d like to know exactly how much money this has helped to raise for breast cancer research or, hey, how many women this has cured of breast cancer.
