Facebook Chat Heads were fun for about 5 minutes. Then they became annoying. They take up real estate on your phone screen, and if you also use Facebook Messenger they are completely superfluous. So, naturally, people want to turn Chat Heads off. Here’s the good news, and the bad news, about how to turn off Facebook Chat Heads.
If you are running Facebook Home on an Android phone, you can easily turn off Chat Heads. Here’s how:
1. Go to the “menu” area of your Android phone.
2. Select Home Settings > Messenger Settings > Notifications
3. Uncheck Chat Heads
Now for the bad news. If you have updated your iPhone to the latest version of the Facebook app, the one that includes Chat Heads, there is no way to turn them off!
The Internet Patrol is completely free, and we don't subject you to ads or annoying video pop-ups. But it does cost us out of our pocket to keep the site going (going on 20 years now!) So your tips via CashApp, Venmo, or Paypal are VERY appreciated! Receipts will come from ISIPP.
BUT, that said – if you updated your iPhone to the latest version of Facebook on your iPhone, and haven’t since synched your apps to your computer, then the odds are good that the version of the Facebook app in iTunes on your computer is an earlier version.
If this is the case, you can delete the Facebook app off your iPhone, and then synch it with iTunes to reinstall the older version without those annoying Chat Heads.
