We suppose that you can’t really blame a company for pushing their own products, but still, it seems just a tad disingenuous for eBay to offer a “safety tip” which amounts to dissing the competition, and hawking their own services.
Recently eBay began displaying the following message to their users, which reads:
“Safety Tip: Never use Western Union to pay on eBay – you can’t confirm who picks it up. Paypal has up to $200 in buyer protection.”
Of course, Paypal is owned by eBay – and, need we say it? Western Union isn’t.
Here’s how the message appeared in eBay accounts:
