Amazon Introduces Kindle Unlimited All-You-Can Read Service

If you are a voracious reader, then Amazon’s new Kindle Unlimited service may be for you. For just $9.99 a month, you can belly up to the Kindle Unlimited ‘all you can read’ buffet. But, just like an all you can eat buffet doesn’t have every food in the restaurant, Kindle Unlimited does not feature all of the Kindle books that are available.

Explains Amazon, “Kindle Unlimited gives you the freedom to explore. Try new genres, discover new authors, and dive into new adventures with unlimited access to our wide and varied selection of books.”

What they don’t say is that there are many, many books that are not included in Kindle Unlimited. It’s simple math. Amazon says that Kindle Unlimited gives you unlimited access to “over 600,000” Kindle books.

There are well over 2million books in the Kindle store (over 3million by some counts).

Still, access to over 600,000 books (including best selling titles and authors such as the Hunger Games, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Lord of the Rings, Michael Chabon, and Stephen Covey), for just $9.99 a month, isn’t necessarily a bad deal. In fact for some, it’s a really good deal. It really depends on your taste in reading material.

If you join Kindle Unlimited, the way you can tell whether a book is included or not is by the “Kindle Unlimited” that appears above a book cover:

..or next to it in a listing:

Or you can go directly to the Kindle Unlimited catalogue.

But wait, there’s more. Kindle Unlimited subscribers also have access to the Audible audiobook version of some of the Kindle Unlimited books. Says Amazon, of that aspect of the Kindle Unlimited service, “Thousands of Kindle books come with the free professionally narrated Audible audiobook. With Whispersync for Voice, whenever you see “Kindle Unlimited with Narration,” you can switch seamlessly between reading and listening without ever losing your place.”

For people who love to read, and are open to either new authors, or undiscovered books from their favorite authors – or whose favorite books happen to be in the Kindle Unlimited catalogue, the new Kindle Unlimited service may be an excellent deal.

  1. I was charged 9.99 on my debit card for Kindle Unlimited apparently on 09/30/2018. I never agreed to it. But because my card is stored in system for Amazon Prime purchased that I have made in the past, it debited my checking account. I want this money credited back to my account immediately. This was not authorized. When I go to try and cancel it says I don’t have an account.
