Toys R Us is throwing their hat, or rather tablet, into the ring by introducing the Tabeo. The Tabeo is a tablet made just for children, and is proving that it might be a worthy adversary for the new kid-friendly Kindle Fire HD.
Built with kids in mind, the tablet comes with a Wi-Fi connection, 50 child-friendly apps pre-loaded on it, and a 7-inch screen. Running on the Google Android operating system, it also has over 6,000 free apps available for download. It is smartly wrapped in a removable protective rubber bumper to protect it, should it get dropped a time or two by your child. When the child gets a little older and has outgrown the bumper, it can be removed so that the tablet is more age appropriate. There is no specific age range for the tablet, as the capabilities of the tablet depends entirely on the freedom given to the user through parental settings. As the child gets older, the settings restrictions can be opened to allow the child more access.
The Tabeo has a built-in browser that includes controls for parents, who can set different controls for up to 8 different users profiles. Parents can block whichever content categorie they wish, disallow certain websites, and even specify when the Internet is accessible, such on on certain hours or days. It also comes with 4GB of storage and a front-facing camera.

For parents who have future programmers on their hands, the Tabeo even has a feature that will email an alert to parents should their child access the Internet through a different browser on the Tabeo. The Tabeo will be making their in-store debut on October 21st, and is available for pre-order now. It comes with a $150 pricetag, but piece of mind may just be worth it.
