Amazon Read Your Books Online

Explains Amazon, “When you buy a physical book (hardcover, paperback, etc.) from Amazon.com that’s part of our Amazon Upgrade program, for an additional charge you can get an online version of the book that you can access from any Internet-connected computer. If the book you’re ordering is part of Amazon Upgrade, you’ll see an offer to add online access on the “Thank you” page after you’ve completed your purchase. The price of the upgrade will be displayed there as well.”

So far it appears that the upgrades range in cost from $1.49 to $3.99.

Amazon goes on to say, “Want to find a book in the Amazon Upgrade program? Visit our Amazon Upgrade store. You can also upgrade past book purchases you’ve made at Amazon.com to get a digital version, as long as the book was purchased directly from Amazon.com (and not via a third-party merchant or Marketplace seller) and is in our Amazon Upgrade program.”

The Amazon Online Reader - which can be accessed with any of IE, Firefox, or Safari - is really just a souped-up version of the Amazon interface which allows you to “search inside this book”.

  1. Not very many older books available from my list of hundreds of purchases. Two, to be precise; one from 2002 and one from 2004. I read one of them long ago, and, the other is an astronomy reference book.
