Can’t access Gmail? An untold number of users attempted to log into their Gmail account recently only to be confronted with the chilling message, “We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is currently experiencing errors. You won’t be able to use your account while these errors last, but don’t worry, your account data and messages are safe. Our engineers are working to resolve this issue.”

Based on the wording of this language, it’s easy to conclude that there is something wrong with your Gmail account. Not that Gmail is experiencing a system-wide problem - or even a partial-system problem.

But that it is a problem with your account, and your account alone.

Was it hacked?

Was it something that someone sent to you?

Was it something that you sent to someone else?

Was it Homeland Security?

No, it’s just a poor choice of wording.

In reality, it has nothing to do with you or your account. It is something going on with the Gmail end of things, and indeed you will eventually be able to log back into your account.

As Gmail themselves say, if you read further down - at least with some of the error messages - “please try accessing your account again in a few minutes.”
