Song Pop, the Multi-Player Facebook, Android and iPhone Game Like “Name That Tune”

If you and your friends consider yourselves music masters, or enjoyed “Name That Tune” while it was on TV, and want a Name that Tune for iPhone or Android, well, then SongPop, the multi-player game from FreshPlanet, may just put you to the challenge. Available for iPhone iOS and Android, and also on Facebook, users can connect either through their Facebook log in, or (our preference) by making up a username and password in Song Pop’s proprietary user name system.

(Why do we prefer not logging in through Facebook? Because logging in through Facebook basically gives control of your privacy over to Facebook – and not just on Facebook, but at any of their partners. To understand more about this, check out our articles on Facebook (lack of) privacy, such as Why You Need to Care About Facebook’s New Open Graph Platform with Social Plugins – The Social Graph that Follows You Everywhere.)

A multiple-choice quiz game, Song Pop provides players a playlist of songs from which to choose, and will receive questions based on that playlist. They will listen to five song clips from the playlist and they will need to correctly identity either the song title, or artist, as quickly as they can. If the answer is correct, the player will earn points, and they will earn bonus points if they were fast to respond and can successfully answer several questions. The more points that are scored, the closer they get to receiving a star, with more songs appearing in the playlist as each star is achieved.

Once the first player has answered five questions from the playlist, the game challenge is sent to another player who will begin the same challenge. The new player can see how the original player answered the questions and how the original player scored on each question. After the second player finishes their round of questions, a winner is determined by highest score. The winner will earn three coins while the other player will get one coin. The last person to pay the game can start a new round with a new playlist.

As players amass coins, they can purchase “powerup items,” which gives players the ability to choose new available playlists, or eliminate multiple answers from multiple choice question rounds to narrow down the answer. New playlists can also be purchased with earned coins, or players can outright purchase new playlists with their credit card or Paypal. Players can either play with Facebook friends, find friends by user name, or be paired up with other random players.

You can get Song Pop for iPhone OS here. It’s also available in the Google Play Store for Android, and on Facebook.
