Facebook has, perhaps unintentionally, revealed that they are analyzing all of your images, taking note of the content of those images, and using what they find to further their reach.

A Federal court has denied Facebook’s motion to dismiss a class action lawsuit, brought on behalf of users whose privacy Facebook breached when it scanned the content of their private Facebook messages to other users, for advertising purposes.

Romance novel expert Sarah Wendell was perusing some romance ebooks rendered by running old romance novels through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software, when she noticed something unusual. Lines such as “Mrs. Tipton went over to him and put her anus around his neck,” and “When she spotted me, she flung her anus high in the air.”

It’s no secret that Google is scanning entire books and putting them on the Internet. In fact, we reported their first wholesale scanning project – scanning books from five major libraries – more than four years ago. That lead to outcries and debates over whether Google’s scanning of books was copyright infringement, and sure enough, in what seemed like a New York minute, the Author’s Guild sued Google over that scanning.
