If you find the term “PTHC” anywhere in a computer message, text message, web search, or any other Internet communication, you may have cause for concern. PTHC typically stands for one of two things: either “Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography” or (and more likely), “preteen hardcore”.
Now, if the term PTHC is being used to refer to Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography, that’s one thing. Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography is a type of medical imaging used to determine whether someone has a blockage in the liver, or liver disease.
However, in the context of the Internet, PTHC more often than not refers to “preteen hardcore” – meaning that it is a shorthand for child pornography. And someone searching for PTHC, or talking about PTHC, is quite likely to be someone who is engaging – or at least trying to engage – in some very risky, and illegal, behaviors.
Typically the material is made available through torrents, or via servers that are offshore and hosted in countries where the laws against such things are more lax, or enforcement resources are even more limited, or both.
And make no mistake – even if the person searching for this material is under the age of 18 – even if they are looking for it because they are ‘just curious’, they could end up incarcerated, and even having to register as a sex offender for the rest of their life.
