Yep, now Aunty has pretty much heard of everything. VoIP provider Vonage is inviting you participate in a “Pimp that Phone” (i.e. mod that telephone) event. Watch four contestants pimp out their ordinary landline (but Vonage-adapted) telephones in an effort to win prizes by turning them into..cough.. “works of art”.

EDISON, N.J., July 25 /PRNewswire/ — Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., the leader in broadband telephony, is giving ordinary home telephones a designer appeal with “Pimp That Phone” — a contest derived from the wildly popular technology craze called case modding. Case modding — the art of decking out the CPU of your personal computer to give it a personal touch — is now moving to the telephone through the use of electric colors, dazzling jewels, and a heavy dose of imagination to make them truly one of a kind.

With creativity, a steady hand and a personalized touch, an ordinary home telephone will be transformed into the ultimate work of art. Vonage, exclusive sponsor of “Pimp That Phone”, has pitted four celebrity technology contestants against each other to compete to see who can express their artistic abilities the best and can “Pimp That Phone” with the greatest success. The winner will then be crowned the ultimate “Pimp Supreme” walking away with an array of cash and prizes.

Each of the contestants has something different to bring to the table. Joshua Driggs hails from Austin, Texas and describes himself as a self-proclaimed “tech head” and has already won numerous awards from Tech TV for past projects. Montana Quinn Cherney, the dark-eyed temptress from Washington, D.C., is an expert in graphic design and sculpture, which she claims may give her a slight advantage. Bonzangeo is known as the master PC moder by his friends and family in Gainesville, GA. He also believes his ticket to winning this competition will be his trademark goggles. Lastly, Christopher Dol says that, “Most mod makers say they like to think outside the box. I don’t even have a box. I mod on a feeling.” With their overall combined personal and professional experience, which ranges from designing Barbie(R) and Hello Kitty(R) accessories to designing elaborate costumes for film making, the competition is bound to get heated which makes it anyone’s game.

The four contestants will have 60 days to turn a landline phone with Vonage service, into their own individual creation. In the meantime, the site will continually monitor their progress over the entire 60-day period while viewers may log on to http://www.pimpthatphone.com, watch their progress and cast their vote for their favorite pimped out phone.
