Yes, Twitter really is coming to television. But unlike the Twitter reality television show that was touted last year, but that never came to pass, this Twitter tv show is really set to happen. Starring William Shatner, the Twitter television show is based on the real-life Twitter account and Twitter feed of Twitter user Justin Halpern, who publishes stuff that his father says under the Twitter name “Shit My Dad Says” (really – check it out at

). Halpern also just published the book, “St*ff My Dad Says”, based on his Twitter feed. While Halpern is the Twitter helmsman, it is really his father, 73-year old Sam Halpern, played in the show by William Shatner, who is the star of the feed, the book, and the show, which, according to reports, is to be called either “Stuff My Dad Says” or “Bleep My Dad Says”.

Sam Halpern has, apparently, come up with such pithy sayings – recounted by son Justin in the ShitMyDadSays Twitter feed – as:

It’s Los Angeles, son. It’s the epicenter of the asshole earthquake. They’d fuck you twice if they had another dick.

A parent’s only as good as their dumbest kid. If one wins a Nobel Prize but the other gets robbed by a hooker, you failed.

HIDDEN roaming charges? Jesus, Sprint has ‘fucking people’ down to a science, like they practice it in a fucking lab on mice first.

Interesting, witty and, arguably, true, sure…but how they are going to spin this into a show will be interesting to see. No doubt the push for the show has been bolstered by the fact that the book has risen to number 8 on the New York Times non-fiction best-seller list. The book has dozens of 5-star reviews on Amazon.

As for the choice of Shatner to play the elder Halpern, says Halpern, the younger, “I pushed for Mr. Shatner. He’s been fantastic. He’s like my dad in that he says what he wants to say when he wants to say it.”

No word on when the sitcom will air on home network, CBS.

  1. This has me feeling somewhat conflicted. On the one hand, the trailer looks dire. On the other, it’s got William fucking Shatner, and I always thought that Nicole chick from Mad TV was kind of hot in a trashy, rapidly-aging-blonde kind of way.

The verdict: I am not going to watch this show.
