Ok, you read all that, right?

Here is how to enter the sweepstakes…first, you will need to go to Amazon’s Facebook page (link below). On the page, if you have not already “Liked” the Amazon Facebook page, you will need to “Like” it. There is a prompt to do this:

Once you have “Liked” the Amazon Facebook page, you will get a little note on the page thanking you for “Liking” them, and inviting you to fill out the short form that appears below the note:

After you fill out the form, you can hit “Enter”…but..ooooh…look what comes next!:

This little gotcha, says the pop-up, is subect to Amazon’s privacy policy, which you can see here: [destination content has been removed at other end :~( ].

However, that privacy policy says nothing specifically about information they scrape from you on Facebook – including your list of friends. The closest thing we could find was this rather scary looking clause:

Does Amazon.com Share the Information It Receives?

Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and we are not in the business of selling it to others. We share customer information only as described below and with subsidiaries Amazon.com, Inc. controls that either are subject to this Privacy Notice or follow practices at least as protective as those described in this Privacy Notice.

* Affiliated Businesses We Do Not Control: We work closely with affiliated businesses. In some cases, such as Marketplace sellers, these businesses operate stores at Amazon.com or sell offerings to you at Amazon.com. In other cases, we operate stores, provide services, or sell product lines jointly with these businesses. Click here for some examples of co-branded and joint offerings. You can tell when a third party is involved in your transactions, and we share customer information related to those transactions with that third party.
* Third-Party Service Providers: We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance, providing search results and links (including paid listings and links), processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes.
* Promotional Offers: Sometimes we send offers to selected groups of Amazon.com customers on behalf of other businesses. When we do this, we do not give that business your name and address. If you do not want to receive such offers, please adjust your Customer Communication Preferences.
* Business Transfers: As we continue to develop our business, we might sell or buy stores, subsidiaries, or business units. In such transactions, customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets but remains subject to the promises made in any pre-existing Privacy Notice (unless, of course, the customer consents otherwise). Also, in the unlikely event that Amazon.com, Inc., or substantially all of its assets are acquired, customer information will of course be one of the transferred assets.
* Protection of Amazon.com and Others: We release account and other personal information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law; enforce or apply our Conditions of Use and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Amazon.com, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction. Obviously, however, this does not include selling, renting, sharing, or otherwise disclosing personally identifiable information from customers for commercial purposes in violation of the commitments set forth in this Privacy Notice.
* With Your Consent: Other than as set out above, you will receive notice when information about you might go to third parties, and you will have an opportunity to choose not to share the information.

So, we say thanks, but no thanks, to a free Kindle (especially as we’d just sell it – we consider the Kindles so inferior to using the free Kindle app on the iPad).

(Don’t have an iPad yet? Seriously, we love our so much, and use it so much, that we have already bought 3! You can get them new for as low as $400 now at Amazon! Shop for an iPad at Amazon

All that said, if you’re keen to try to win that Kindle, here is the link:

  1. Amazon is really that generous. Sadly, its only for those who’s from US. I hope next time it will be open internationally.

  2. Well, I will skip on kindles and igizmos. I spend enough time in front of the “big screen”. I find it refreshing to actually open, smell, touch, and read a book. And I can do so very cheaply, and never have to worry about the battery dieing out. Plus, after I have read it, I can actually keep the book to refer to later. I do not have to worry about the component electrons being recalled to the cloud by Big Brother Jobs, or someone like him.

  3. Dear sir,
I have come across website www.theinternetpatrol.com from the title of this web site that your corporation is doing a loudable work to inform possible victim of scam known as lottery schems. My teachir Mian Allah Nawaz had received the information through mobile that he has won 10,000/pounds as a result of draw by coca cola mobile draw 2011 from prize redemption centre (cokeredeem@live.co.uk). My princeple had sent a number of emails to above mentioned address and his subsideries e.g Societe Generale Bank,Oscar Devon Attorney. I feel it is our duty to seek confirmatory information as to whether this lottery scheme is fake or genuine. My princeple was retired from chief Justice of Lahore High Court now working as Senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan. waiting for reply.

    Kind regards,

  4. I know you love your iPad, but some of us cannot read for long periods on a screen of that sort (phone, iPad, computer) without suffering headache, dancing vision, or some other passing but annoying ailment. For us, the Kindle is, while far from ideal, the best available alternative to carrying around piles of paper (pdf printouts of journal articles and similar things, in my case).
