We’re not sure what Miss Manners would have to say about the correct way to apologize to someone whom you’ve just shot, but we’re pretty sure that she would not say that it’s ok to apologize by text message. Then again, given that the victim might not want to see your mug – except on a ‘wanted’ posted with “apprehended” stamped over it – maybe she would. While this may sound like an “only in the movies” scenario, it actually played out in real life recently in Orange County, California.

According to the Orange County register, 15-year old twin sisters showed up at Sun View Park in Huntington Beach, California. One was there to participate in an arranged gang fight with another girl, the other twin was there, presumably, to provide moral support for her sister.

The girl from the other gang – or someone from that side – shot the wrong twin in the ankle.

And shortly thereafter the shot twin received an apology from the shooter, by text message.

When the police arrived, the shot twin’s sister handed police the shot sister’s cell phone and, according to a subsquent warrant obtained by the police, the responding officer “saw on the screen that the message was an apology for the shooting.”

Perhaps the fact that the fight was also arranged by text message makes the method of apology delivery more acceptable.
