Is the “Internet Copyright Law Enforcement Agency” Real or a Scam? Here’s What We Know

Heads up everyone! We are hot on the trail of what appears to be a wide-spread scam, trying to scare people into coughing up $495 to avoid prosecution for illegal downloading, even though they have never illegally downloaded. This scam is coming in the form of an actual letter, sent on “Internet Copyright Enforcement Agency” letterhead, and signed by David Walsh, identifying himself as “Senior Copyright Law Enforcement Officer”. The address, 1455 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Suite 400 Washington, DC 20004, is one of those “rent an address and meeting room” businesses.
