Few people aren’t aware of at least one of the Hillary Clinton, Sony Pictures, or American Egg Board email scandals. But what should we learn from them, and has anybody actually learned from them?

Back in May of 2011, the Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) was hacked, compromising as many as all user accounts, as well as those of Qriocity and Sony Online Entertainment. A class-action lawsuit was filed, and now there is a settlement, in which all subscribers at or before that time stand to share.

Sony Pictures, for reasons known only to them, has done a 180 and will now allow a “limited theatrical release” of the movie The Interview, according to Sony CEO Michael Lynton. So what theaters are showing The Interview? At least two theater chains are known to be airing The Interview, with, almost certainly, more theatres to follow. There have also been hints of The Interview streaming via video on demand (“VOD”), and while the outlet has not been announced, there are rumours that it will be on Crackle, which Sony owns.

Lots of you are asking lots of questions about the Sony PlayStation Network (“How was the Sony Play Station Network taken down?”, “Who hacked the the Sony PlayStation Network?”, “Is it true that it was done with rooted Sony PSP handhelds?”, and, perhaps most importantly, “Is the Sony PSN secure now?” To bring you up-to-date, if you are scratching your head right now, first, the Sony PlayStation Network (referred to in shorthand as the “PSN”) was taken down last month in a concerted cyber attack which, at first Sony claimed was down due to “maintenance” but, eventually, they admitted that a hacking attack had taken them down. The hacker or hackers also caused Sony’s Qriocity services to go down. Oh, and wait – it also extended to the Sony Online Entertainment network. In short, if you have ever completed any transaction online with Sony, you need to treat your identity and credit card information as compromised.
