Amazon Opens 7 New Fulfillment Centers; Offers ‘Order and Pick Up’ at Whole Foods for Prime Members

In case you were wondering whether Amazon might be slowing down in any way – they’re not. In fact, in addition to their looking for the location for their second headquarters, they have announced that they are opening seven new fulfillment centers in August alone! Salt Lake City, Orlando, Las Vegas, Aberdeen MD, Shelby Township MI, and Troutdale OR are all seeing a new fulfillment center open this month, and Las Vegas has not one, but two new Amazon fulfillment centers opening in August. Separately, Amazon has also announced a new perk for Prime members: you can now place an order with Whole Foods through the Prime app, and it will not only be waiting for you when you arrive, but a Whole Foods team member will bring your order out to your car!

Florida Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll Forced to Resign Over Internet Cafe Gambling

Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll has been implicated in Florida’s storefront Internet gambling parlor problem, specifically because of her involvment with a group known as Allied Veterans of the World, and so has resigned. The storefront Internet gambling casinos, which mask themselves as “Internet cafes”, contain electronic slot machines, in violation of Florida’s gambling laws.

Online “Girlfriend” Scams $200,000 from Illinois Man

From our “Why online scams work” department, a woman (if she is indeed a woman) who was in an online relationship with an Illinois man for over two years has managed to scam at least $200,000 from the man. The scam came to light when the 48-year-old man from Naperville, Illinois contacted police because his ‘girlfriend’ had disappeared right after he wired her the last of the $200,000, and he feared she had been kidnapped.

Text Message Warning of Gang Initiation at Walmart a Hoax that Won’t Die

Police say that a hoax in the form of a text message warning women to stay away from Walmart because of a gang initiation requiring women to be gunned down in the Walmart parking lot is a hoax that has been around since at least 2005.
