The 2015 SXSW (which really should be ‘SxSW’ as it stands for South by Southwest) is offering a “robot petting zoo” (hashtag #RoboPetZoo) featuring adorable (and not so adorable) robots with names like Blabdroid, Ozobot, and Dar-1 (say it fast).
Many online articles these days are not written by humans – rather they are written by writing bots, giving rise to the term ‘robot journalism’. Of course, these aren’t actual robots, rather it is a software program, programmed to synthesize data and spit out articles.
Bots generate at least 10% of all online traffic, according to data released today by Solve Media, a company that provides security authentication solutions through CAPTCHA-based advertising technology. Solve Media indicates that they have seen a 400% increase in what they term ‘aberrant’ traffic across web-based services such as commenting, voting, registration, contact and commenting.
