Move over kittenfishing, mosting, and paperclipping, the new dating term is Houseplanting. Houseplant dating is basically when you date several people at once, leading to one or more of them not getting ‘watered’.
Kittenfishing, or to kittenfish, is when, through your online profile, you make yourself seem much more attractive, slimmer, younger, smarter, or otherwise misrepresent who you are to make yourself seem somehow ‘better’ in the eyes of your beholders.
At the 2018 Facebook Developer Conference, Mark Zuckerberg announced a new entry in the online dating world: a Facebook dating service – specifically a Facebook dating app (so sorry web-only users, you will have to download the Facebook dating app in order to use the Facebook dating service).
Move over, ghosting and breadcrumbing, stashing and submarining, there’s a new kid in town: mosting. And by ‘kid’, we mean that they are kidding you. Kidding you about what? About that you are their most special person. Hence the term ‘mosting’: mosting = most + ghosting.
Isn’t it something how apps like Bumble make it so easy to upgrade to premium features through the app, but when it comes to cancelling that feature, it’s almost impossible to figure out how to cancel that premium account? Here’s how to do it.
OKCupid (OKC) announced today that it had removed the ‘Visitors’ feature, with which a user could see who had visited their profile, meaning that now everyone has incognito visiting. Only ‘Incognito’ now means your profile is hidden from everyone unless you choose to make it available to them. A List now only offers the advantage of seeing if someone ‘Liked’ you even if you haven’t liked them, and Incognito is a separate service for $9.95 a month. Confused? You won’t be after this week’s episode of OkCupid Steps in It.
There are any number of reasons that one may want to change or update one’s age and birthday information on Match.com, including that you accidentally entered the wrong date of birth when you signed up, or that you intentionally put the wrong birth date (particularly the year) in order to ‘trick the algorithms’ (which is the excuse that most people give when they cop to having lied about their age on a dating site). Whatever the reason, if you now want to correct your date of birth on Match.com you may find that it seems impossible. But it’s not. Here’s how to update your date of birth on Match.com.
Popular online dating site OKCupid went down for the count early this morning, and continues to be unreachable despite OKCupid (also known as ‘OKC’) saying on Twitter that the site is back up.
Which do you think is worse: being breadcrumbed or being ghosted? We have previously written about ghosting, which is when someone with whom you have had a date, or have been texting or emailing (or, heaven forbid, talking with on the phone), disappears without even the courtesy of telling you that they have decided that they are not interested, or are perhaps interested in or seeing someone else. Breadcrumbing, on the other hand, is when they don’t disappear, even though they are no longer genuinely interested in you.
Those of you who breathed a sigh of relief over the hacking of the Ashley Madison adult cheaters site because instead you are on one of the Friend Finder sex hookup sites, such as Adult Friend Finder (AdultFriendFinder.com) – guess what? It turns out that last month Friend Finder Networks, parent company of Adult Friend Finder and other associated sites such as Penthouse.com, Cams.com, iCams.com, and Stripshow.com – totaling over 412 million accounts – was hacked, exposing email addresses, passwords, and IP addresses – everything your spouse or significant other needs to nail you nailing someone else.
If you are trying to cancel your paid subscription with Match.com and get the message “You are currently subscribed through the iTunes App Store. Matchr, the new card game where every card is a real profile from a dating site, and you match them up, may very well be the Cards Against Humanity of 2016. While some are saying that it’s based on Tinder, let’s face it, online dating site profiles are, for the most part, pretty much fungible.
With Halloween just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to talk about ghosts. Only, we mean online dating ghosts. Oh, we don’t mean sipping coffee with Casper. ‘Ghosting’ or to be ‘ghosted’ means that you had a date, and then the person simply vanished. They didn’t bother to call you (or email or text you) to tell you that they weren’t interested, they simply let their lack of communication do it for them, figuring you’d get the (uncommunicated) message. Why do people ghost? And if you’ve been ghosted, tell us about it!
