More Scammer Spam being Sent to Mailing Lists

Add as the newest scammer spamming mailing lists. As we mentioned last week, scammers have started signing up for mailing lists in order to spam the list members with their scams. (Our samples come from Aweber mailing lists.) Last week it was supposedly David Norris, leasing his house in Troy, Michigan, with a contact number of (509) 255-3270. This week it’s the supposed Rev. Gary Williams, with a house in Warwick, New York, with a contact number of (502) 536-8106.

(To read about the other version of this, from “David Norris”, see our article Scammers Using Email Confirmations to Send Their Spam.)

In part the scammers are doing this as a twist on social engineering. If you are on a mailing list, you are more likely to trust someone who is on that list with you, and also more likely to read their email.

In the following case, the scammer, using the email address, signed up for a mailing list, and then replied to two different messages to the mailing list, sending the same scam twice.

Remember, folks, if it is out of the blue, and especially if it seems too good to be true, it’s not for you.

Thanks for your interest and inquiries about my house. Yes the house is still available for rent and we are looking for a responsible person/family to occupy and maintain the house now that we are not around. Myself and my wife just traveled to Houston Tx, for a program called SERVING IN MISSION (SIM), you can view the link for more info. We will be away for 3 to 4 years or more that is why I have made up my mind to put up my house for rent to whomever that will take good care of it. However, my initial plan was to sell the house but it was not successful because the Realtor raised the price which made it difficult for me to sell before leaving the States so never mind if you see the for sale sign in front of the house, It has already been taken off the market as for sale so there is no need to contact any Realtor.

  1. Thank you for posting about David Norris and his scamming ol self! Its a good thing I looked into this person about a house for rent. Close call for me!

  2. I knew that this may be too good to be true!! $650 a month for a home that may not even be his! I’m glad I checked with Google to find out about the phone number that was sent to my email about Gary Williams. He and I have been emailing about a home for $650/month and to find out it may be a scam
