You may have noticed Facebook’s recent “improvement” – now if you have a private message on Facebook, Facebook Mobile will not allow you to read it within the mobile app – it forces you to read it in Facebook Messenger. Thanks (not at all), Facebook! Here’s how to be able to read your Facebook messages in your Facebook app instead of through Facebook Messenger.
The secret actually lies not in the Facebook Mobile app, but rather in the Facebook Messenger app. More specifically, in the newest Facebook Messenger app.
You see, it seems that the Facebook Mobile app has some hook that detects whether you have the newest version of Facebook Messenger. If you do have the newest version of the Facebook Messenger, this causes the Facebook Mobile app to do (at least) two things: it gets rid of Chat Heads, and it causes you to be thrown into the Facebook Messenger app any time you want to open a message.
It’s very annoying.
Happily, assuming that you have not yet synced your phone after having installed the new Messenger, you can delete Facebook Messenger, and reinstall the previous version through iTunes. More on how to do that at the end of this article.
