After reading a story about a USB shock therapy bracelet (really, but only available in Japan) I decided to conduct an informal search to see what lesser-known USB devices were available to us Internet jockeys here in the United States, and to put them together for you as a Top 10 USB Devices list.

After discarding all of the ads for USB drives, USB speakers, and USB-powered cradles (for electronic devices, not babies – the latter would have made the list!), here are what I consider to be the Top Ten USB Devices:

10. The USB Aquarium, which is “the home to two life-like tropical fish. A small motor generates a current in the water, allowing the fish to gently swim about the tank. The Mini Desktop Aquarium is equipped with a high-intensity blue LED that illuminates the tank in a dark environment. Both motor and LED can be independently switched off. The USB-Powered Mini Desktop Aquarium package comes complete with the tank, two fish, and USB cable. Operation is simple! Just add water to the tank, connect the cable to your computer, and enjoy the aquarium.”

9. The USB desktop fan with multi-coloured lights, with which you can “amuse yourself with a sparkling light show while savoring a refreshingly cool breeze. FanPal circulates welcome cooling air around your desk, and delivers a vibrant mix of colored light.” Sometimes the copy just speaks for itself, doesn’t it?

8. The USB string of LED lights, which are apparently the “coolest and easiest way to decorate your computer case, monitor, or desk! This Deco Light glows bright multi-color LEDs when plugged in to your computer’s USB port! Put one on your monitor, desk, etc., and let the glowing LEDs shine bright!”

7. The USB disco ball. Says the ad “Just plug the Disco Ball into any free USB port, and instantly the party is in your room tonight, and everyone is invited. Just don’t tell your mom! When switched on, the Disco Ball rotates, and lights up with four internally intense white LEDs. The colored lenses of the ball project dots of light onto the ceiling and walls of your darkened room, giving you that sweet sweet club look.” Whee!

6. The USB powered cup warmer which “plugs into your computer’s USB port to provide a hotplate that keeps coffee, tea and soup warm for hours. An additional USB port is built into the side, allowing for use of all USB ports while using the cup warmer. Plate heats to between 100 and 150°F and reaches its full operating temperature in minutes. Includes an on/off switch that eliminates the hassle of unplugging the unit from your computer.”

5. The USB personal massager. Bring intimate web chats to new heights! “With this CP USB Personal Massager you can reduce stress and tension anytime at the comfort of your computer! With 3600rpm speeds and the convenience of a USB powered interface, this amazing device delivers a powerful yet soothing vibration to help you massage away stress and fatigue. A perfect gift and especially recommended for laptop/portable users.” Oh, and pervs hanging out in chat rooms.

4. The USB Moodlight Air Ionizer which “eliminates bad odor, reduces positive ions, and reduces airborne dusts and particles. Simply place the Ionizer on a stable flat surface, connect the USB cable, press the On/Off button, and the LED light up for ionizer operation. Add some comfort and live a healthier lifestyle.” Of course, to really live a healthier lifestyle, get away from the computer and go outside and breathe some fresh air.

3. The USB Glitter rocket, which looks essentially like a lava lamp in rocket form, with its “Silver plastic housing, and clear liquid with silver glitter.”

2. The USB snowman, which we’re told is a “new way to bring holiday spirit to your computer desk! The USB Powered Miniature Desktop Snowman with LED enhances the holiday spirit in your home or office. The Snowman’s built-in LED cycles through 4 different colors, for a more festive feel during winter holidays.”

And finally, the top USB device for the holidays:

1. The USB Christmas tree (but wait, there’s more!) “What better way to brighten the holiday spirit in the office and home by plugging in these stand-alone mini trees! First, the USB Christmas tree comes with built-in LED that cycles through 6 different colors. Secondly, a strong demand from the market is also making a new Hanukah Bush with blue LED available this year!”

Strong demand? I don’t believe it for a second, do you?

All of these devices, and more, can be found through Froogle. Here is the search that I used to find the Top 10 USB devices.
