If you are looking for how to change your email address in Slack, or really to change any of your other Slack account settings, like your password, 2FA, or even your notification settings, you may have run into a circular brick wall. Here’s how to change your email address, password, and other account items in Slack.

Here’s what’s going on: No matter how you sign into Slack, it’s quite possible that you will not be able to find your actual, you know, account. Oh sure, you can log into your various Slack workspaces (work, life coaching, personal, cute kittens), but you can’t find your actual Slack account, the thing with your username, email address, password, etc..

You would think that logging in to the apex (meta) Slack site would take you to your account. There’s even a button at the top of the Slack website that says “log in”. So you log in and are taken to a page of all of your Slack workspaces but not your account.

A web search leads you to a page on the Slack website itself that tells you that in order to change your email address you need to, and we quote, “From your desktop, navigate to your Account settings by following this link: https://my.slack.com/account.”

However that link takes you right back to the page with all of your Slack workspaces, not to your actual account!

The Internet Patrol is completely free, and we don't subject you to ads or annoying video pop-ups. But it does cost us out of our pocket to keep the site going (going on 20 years now!) So your tips via CashApp, Venmo, or Paypal are VERY appreciated! Receipts will come from ISIPP.

So you make sure that you’re logged in (you are) and copy the my.slack.com URL, and you paste it directly into the very page where you are logged into Slack, surely that must work? It doesn’t work, same result.

You think about how Salesforce bought Slack at the end of 2020 for $29billion (that’s billion, with a B), and that surely with all that money, and all that time, they could have fixed this thing which, let’s face it, in all likelihood they broke. But no.

So, in one last final act of desperation you search the web again, this time for something – anything – that is not on the Slack website, and that will tell you how to log into you damned account so that you can change your email address on Slack, or change your Slack password, or whatever it is that you want to change.

And, you’ve found it!

Here is how to find your account settings on Slack so that you can change your email address or password or notification settings or whatever you want.

1. Be logged in to Slack on your desktop with a web browser, not with the Slack app.

2. Copy and paste this URL into your web browser:

https://slack.com/account/settings
