113 Replies to “How to Cancel an eFax Account”

  1. Whoever is responsible for this website, THANK YOU! You just saved me a lot of time and trouble.

  2. I too remember signing up for this eFax and it being near impossible to cancel. I did remember that there was a phone number that you could call in LAX and found it here on your site. Thanks so much for your help.

So everyone, call 1-323-817-3205, listen to the prompts and hit the one that says if you want to cancel. It works

  3. For the first time I get involved with such terrifying fraud on the Internet.
It was necessary to send only one fax. Google gave me this wonderful site with a free 30-day period. I registered, entered a payment card number, sent a fax. And then it became more interesting.
The site does not have a section where you can delete or cancel an account. It is impossible to delete the data of my payment card.
But it is written – if you want to cancel the accounting – contact by e-mail.
Posted by e-mail, the answer came in a day – to cancel, call.
I do not have the opportunity to call. I do not know colloquial English. I can only write with the help of a translator.
How do I cancel and delete my account on this fraudulent site. Help.

  4. As of 11/21/2018 there’s still the same issue with the e-fax website. I called the number listed and was able to cancel my account quickly with no issues.

  5. Have tried email, chat, going online with no luck. They’ve got me for months and months, this post saved me thank you!

  6. Yea I signed up online, then couldn’t cancel online. I tried to call local # (Japan) and they said please call US. Then US (Canada/N.America) said I need to call Japan. What a runaround. What kind of stupid service doesn’t have online/automated cancel? A service that is a total scam.

We need to report this to a business bureau.

  7. E-Fax ( aka EFax ) are THIEVES!!!

The refuse to recognize when you cancel and keep charging you.

In my case, when I got to the supervisor, Chris, I was told that “It’s against our policy to get refunds” (even when charged for a cancelled service). When I stated I would take it up with my bank, Chris threatened to place negative commentary on my credit report.

Even after a fair amount of annoyance, I was only able to get a verbal confirmation that my account was cancelled. I viewed that as worthless since the previous verbal cancellations were meaningless.

When you go to cancel, the customer support also play a ton of word games. In my case, it got so ridiculous that they claimed they didn’t understand such basic statements as “cancel my account immediately!” and “Cancel my account today!”.

Like others, I eventually had to get my bank to block E-Fax from making any charges against my card.

This is in addition to the fact that when I did use the FAX service, it was pretty poor and took multiple attempts to send even the most basic FAX or get a reciept.

E-Fax is a company of thieves. Avoid them however you can and never let them have any of your financial or personal data!

  8. Called to cancel, waited forever, then got the uk number to cancel (08707112211) and whenI called it after a really long waiting time the lady on the phone told me the people were not available to cancel. This stuff should be illegal. They said they would call me back but I’ll try my luck again later. Worst company since EA.

  9. I cancelled my account and still had 10 moths left. I thought well since I paid my subscription it will not automatically renew 10 months from now. Nope, efax completely cancelled my account, no access nothing. Hey Efax, I’d fax you that I hope you go out of business for shitty business practices but you canceled it.

  10. Thank you so much for that number in the USA. It saved me from going insane!
I am in the UK and tried cancelling by phone but they just left me on distorted music for ever. I then emailed customer service but got no reply. So I phoned again and told them I didn’t want to be left hanging on the line again. They acknowledged that I had rung earlier and said they’d ring back. But they didn’t.
Then I added the necessary ’00’ to the front of the telephone number you supplied and bingo, a real live all-American helpful guy. Within 7 minutes of me dialling the number, we’d done the whole cancelling routine and I had an email confirming cancellation with immediate effect. A million thanks!

  11. I called UK landline today to cancel my free trial period after sending one fax a week ago. Customer representative took my phone, and asked my purpose of the call. I was told to be put through customer loyalty line after I said I would like to cancel my account. I waited on the line for 60 minutes but could not talked to anybody. I am desperate now and do not know what to do. Cancellation is not that easy as mentioned on efax website. Beware of the efax scam.

  12. Set up account on 13/09/2017.
Sent an email to cancel on 26/09/2017.
Response on 05/10/2017 saying that they had not yet processed by email of 26/09/2017 as they were very busy.
Tried calling on their UK line. On hold for 40 minutes. Premium number.
Email on 15/10/2017 with attached bill. Called UK landline and advised open from Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Called 16/10/2017, a Monday at 9:30 a.m. Left on hold for another 30 minutes.
Looked to see if payment had been deducted from account. Not yet.
Checked to see if any way of stopping payment.
    Found this post.
Called international number. Got through quite quickly, but told to call UK line. Explained that I could not get through.
    Called bank to cancel card.

  13. I tried calling and got frustrated. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told NO.
Ended up using the online chat service and just continued to type cancel my service over and over. I am waiting for the email confirmation now.
    eFax was a big mistake…

  14. The phone number works for cancellation!!! I am in Australia, the local Australian number did not work but the number above did!. I’ll still wait though, hopefully they do not charge me again…

  15. I called the number and got the cancellation done in like 5 minutes. Thanks so much for posting this article!

  16. Just change your credit card information, save. Contact bank, have card replaced. End of story. You put a foot right up their butts and let them deal with the fees. Sometimes, unfortunately, you have to fight fire with fire. Sites like these that fail to practice good ethics should be shut down permanently.

In the meantime, simply cut off their access, until they figure it out.

  17. efax has charged me after 3 months of cancelling the free trial, tried it in April-2015 once, cancelled the service after 2 days. They charged me in July-2015, for unused service, I am really frustrated with efax since they just don’t accept to refund the money although acknowledging that the service was cancelled in April-2015 but they gave me a lousy explanation that I accepted 2 months free trail.

efax will soon be out of business – you can’t fool all the people all the time – it is a rule.
I will spread the word in every way so others will not fall victim to efax

  18. Okay, dude – you’re all canceled. And hey thanks for being a customer, man – that just freakin’ sucks you’re buggin’ out on us but hey – I know how it goes. Damn do I know how it goes! All right so just let me know if we’re all cool then – and hey hope you, you know, come on back in the future and re-activate your account and whatnot – that would be awesome. And hey if you do sign back up and I’m not here don’t forget to mention my name and such so I get credit – Mista Bob Dobalina. You’re supposed to give them an employee number, too, but I forgot it, fug. All right, anyway – later. And oh yeah, hey – is there like anything else I can help you with. I hope not b/c I gotta pee but I gotta freakin’ give you that last little come-on too even more than I gotta pee or I’ll get sheeyat-canned. So, hey I gotta go. And don’t forget to call me next billing cycle and sign back up man! Everybody needs a fax, dude.

  19. Seeing that others here have been billed since cancelling their account I am posting my cancellation confirmation here. Who knows if I need another record to corroborate a billing dispute?

  20. I was with eFax before since i started to receive all these spam, and then i switched to Popfax, and i have never had any problems after that. I found it more reliable, fast and highly professional.

  21. Canceling the 30-Day Trial was pretty straight forward. Logged into My Account, went to the Help page and there is Contact Customer Service email and phone number at the bottom (1-800-958-2983). I called the toll-free number and Customer Service representation was polite and professional. I was done in 5-10 minutes, with cancelation number in hand.

  22. I did chat with them online and the cancellation process was prompt with a confirmation email.

  23. Just canceled mu account thru their online chat. Received the confirmation e-mails several minutes later. I have posted the transcript of the transaction below (X’ing out my personal numbers). Now I suppose I wait to see if they actually stop billing me.

  24. Thank you for providing that number for efax to cancel the service! I cancelled this morning, but had cancelled in 2013 and the company (efax) was continuing to use an expired credit card # to make the billing to my account. They refused to reimburse any of the charges including the last one. I was able to get a confirmation number and email that it was cancelled…again. This time, I’m going to make my credit card Company aware of the problem and request they do not pay.As mentioned by some of the other people that made comments, if you go to their Website, there is not a number or area on their Website to cancel the service!!

  25. WOW! How funny I had the same experience. Today I disputed all the charges with my bank, cancelled my debit card and filed a complaint against the company at bbb.org. The are a real scam!

  26. This was really helpful! Thanks for sharing this article and for giving the right number to call. I got my account cancelled and received a confirmation email about 10 minutes into the call.

  27. Cancelled my efax by phone 5-27-2010. now it’s 10-31-2012 and i found it’s still being billed!!! I have a business with multiple employee cards and hundreds of charges coming through, so it slipped past. they have no record of the original cancellation and won’t refund the 30 months ($600.00)!!! of unused service they kept billing us for. BE CAREFUL that they actually cancel your account.

  28. I signed up for efax nearly 3 years ago, sent ONE Fax and ‘cancelled’ the next day by phone, since then I have now been billed £350 for this mistake.
Only on winding up my wife’s business account did I see that they are still charging us for this (unused) service.
Called them again today to vent my anger at having had this money stolen from me, I was (at first) told that they had no record of me calling them at all, let alone to cancel, and that despite of them recording all phone calls they could not listen to mine unless I could give them not only the date of the call, (early Nov’ 3rd-6th, probably the 4th 2009 is the best I can do) but they want the exact time down to the individual minute that the call went through, although they couldn’t tell me if that was the time I made the call, it was answered by the switchboard or computerised answering service or when I actually finally got through their options menu.
It has to be the exact minute however as they can only, so they say, look up phone calls using the time it came in and not by looking up either the number called from, the account number or any other customer details, convienient eh?
Then after telling me at first a couple of times that there was no record of me ever contacting them by phone for any reason, the girl I was speaking to suddenly said that she had in fact now just seen a record of me calling in to their customer dis-service centre on the 4th Nov 2009, the very day I told then was almost certainly the day I called to cancel, being the day after I sent the late night fax, the only time I ever used the service.
Yupp, she said that she could see that I had phoned in, but no notes on tyhe system saying why I had !
I pointed out that the most likely explaination was that the staff member had simply not done their job correctly, possibly had even just not hit the ‘Enter’ key to input the cancellation request at end of call, might even have been a new member of staff, easy mistake to make, I know as have spent 18 months working in a call centre, (Saga) myself and I see this sort of thing happen now and again with peoples car insurance not being started or cancelled, or new car details not being entered, it just happens sometime.
Big differance in how it’s handled however.
Still at least she told me t5hsat she had seen on screen that I had called in the day after I had sent the only fax I ever did.
She told me that she could only arrange a refund of the last four months fee’s due to their own internal policies, I was not too happy about this and asked to speak to her manager, was told not available, only after repeatly pointing out that I have a right top speak to her manager under UK consumer law a few times did her manager suddenly magically arrive.
He the contridicted his own staff by telling me that there was in fact, (& I use that word quite loosely) now No Record of me calling in ever! Despite only being told ten minutes earlier that there was such a record, the manager when I pointed out that I had just been told by his staff that there was a record of this call would only state that he had ‘not heard her say that’, not supprising as he was ‘not arround’ when she was telling me this.
I pointed out that all he had to do was listen to the call recording and he then told me he would be happy to do so if I could tell him to the minute when I made the call so he could ‘look it up on the system’
Even thogh the call was still in progress he couldn’t replay it unless I could give him the exact minute I called, still thougfh he couldn’t tell me if that was the exact minute I placed the call, it was picked up by switchboard or actually got through to a staff member

Personally I’d steer well clear of this lot if you think you should get what you pay for

  29. Susan sorry to hear of your plight.

I would do two things. One is to contact your card company about reversing the charge. The other is to also ask them to reissue you with a new card, so that next year it will decline them.

    Good luck :)

eFax — CUSTOMERS CAN’T CANCEL, ARE AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED EACH YEAR, AND CAN’T GET A REFUND.

eFax automatically charges consumers for a year in advance, without notifying the customer that they are making the charge. They do not give any refunds. They do not have an option to turn off the automatic charges. The only way to cancel an account is to call them at the end of your billing period.

I was charged $169 in August for a one year renewal. I didn’t sign up for a renewal, and I didn’t agree to an automatic renewal. I was never alerted by eFax and they were about to renew my account, and didn’t know about the charge until reconciling our bank records 2 mos later.

When I contacted them via email and chat, and was told they don’t give refunds. When I asked them to stop renewing my account, and close it at the end of this billing period, they refused. They said I had two options: 1) close the account right now, and they’d reassign my number–so in essence I’ve paid for 10 months I can’t use. Or 2) remember to catch them next year, before the billing period ends and they renew it automatically, and cancel then.

I agreed to cancel right now and lose 10 months I paid for. I asked them to send me an email confirmation, which they said they would. But the confirmation never came. I believe based on the many complaints about this company online, that they will charge me again next year.

  31. wow kudos on the original article…the phone # is good but be ready to spend 1 hour on the phone to sift thru options, etc… EFAX IS A SCAM!!!! please avoid like the plague!!!! why would anyone use it is beyond me….better to rely on doves or smoke signals than use this garbage company….total garbage!!!!

  32. I cancelled today via phone (UK). 3 1/2 hours later I had my confirmation e-mail. Still thinking of going to the bank anyway and try to block them – just in case.
But I’ve got to say, thanks for all the previous comments here. Unfortunately I started to search the web for efax after I got charged. I had this 30days free trial. I tried once to fax but the allowed filesize fo the fax was too small for me. So I cancelled the very same day via email (day 1 of the 30 days trial). One month later I got charged (£11.06 instead the 7.50 stated on their website). I searched my emails and found that they actually send a reply to my cancellation request 10 days later, which told me to call them during business hours ….bla bla. Today I called the normal landline number (+44 20 3147 4872) instead of the 0870 number. And the funny thing – the girl at the other end used exactly the same pattern like I read here in the chat logs. Even though I didn’t even try to hide my anger about their business practise. I had to repeat 5 times that I want to cancel right the fuck now, before she stopped her sales talk and cancelled my subscription.
Anyway, I’m glad I’ve learned my lesson a bit cheaper than some other guys here. But for the future I will get a cheap anonymous prepaid debit card and use it for companies which I don’t know. Then they can try to get the money out of me – which I doubt they will. But its still way more comfortable for me than to try to get the money back from them!
Good luck to everybody who is in a similar situation.

  33. i just cancelled using the phone # you mentioned, 1-323-817-3205, and it took me no longer than 4 minutes and I received an immediate response!

  34. I cancelled efax 12/27/2011 after chacking my bank they continued to bill me until today 3/31/2012!!!! To make matters worse they refused to refund the money because even though they showed that I spoke with them on 12/27, the notes said I would call in a few days to cancel not that I cancelled, I didn’t have a cancellation code from them of which they never provided to me! Of course today they gave me a cancellation code. Almost $50.00 that they scammed from my account!

  35. I just went on chat and although I’m in the UK i told them my company had stopped trading and there was no money to pay anything. Got cancelled pretty quick :)

  36. A complete scam. The fax I sent out was so full of ads no one could figure out how to access the document I sent.

I e-mailed and was told I could only cancel by live chat or phone even though they had no trouble signing me up online. The phone number referred me to the live chat service which wasn’t working.

I encourage everyone to formally dispute the charges through your credit card company as that will cost e-fax $$$.

  37. Is it possible to just ignore these fools? Gmail seems to send any email they send me to spam anyway :-)

  38. I am ripped off by Phonepeople.com which belongs efax.com. I’m worried that my card will be billed after that 30-day free trial (i got nothing ), it is really scam. And my credit card company can’t block them. I am pissed off.

  39. Just wanted to confirm further to my previous comments 9/26/11 that my efax account was cancelled as requested and no further payments have been taken. i used the chat service and told them i had been advised i could cancel through them by the UK representative I had been in contact with via email. He tried to persuade me not to cancel, offered all manner of extras etc but did do the cancellation and gave me a confirmation number too.

  40. Guess what? you can’t cancel your eFax account by email! they reply by telling you need to call their customer service “for security reasons” in order to cancel. These guys are **UNBELIEVABLE**.

I am just going to call my credit card issuer and block eFax. Their way of operation is really unacceptable imho.

  41. Just thought Id add I’ve received a confirmation email about the cancellation. Won’t know for sure my card hasnt been charged as the latest payment was only taken Friday for one of my accounts. The other is due out next week so we shall see.

  42. I used the online chat to cancel. Im in the UK and have not been able to get through to anyone to cancel as I work long hours and am not always at home. I was advised via email to use the chat if I couldnt get through. First of they said they couldnt help but I explained I had heard that they can help and that I had been advised via email to use the chat if I couldnt get through. Victor R. was very helpful, offered all the 2months free etc but declined and was given a cancellation number. I have printed screened the chat box and have copied the conversation in case I have to prove that a cancellation request was submitted and confirmed.

  43. Nere, you should go online and chat with their customer service, insist that you want your account to be cancelled, i tried cancelling my credit card before i sort out what to do, but my credit card still being charged coz bank they don’t give sxxt as and when you agreed to auto debit unless the other party cancel the transaction… please see point #9.

  44. I have a bigger problem!…. i’m in Brazil….how can cancel my account? i try the live chat but nobody asnwer? i tried to change my information of my cart to but didn’t work….i’m thinking that i will have to cancel my credit card like you’re assaulted (actually the same case)

  45. Hi All,

Efax cancellation link does not work nor does the “Live Chat” work. In my Live Chat, I was told to contact the UK office as the person in USA did not have my records available with him. I finally contacted 1-323-817-3205 to cancel it. eFax’s cancellation is very lousy and tedious, once you subscribe you are stuck with eFax until you figure out the cancellation channels the tough way !!!!

  46. OMG. I cancelled my EFAX last MAY 2011. Renewal was up August 11, 2011. Since I know what assholes these people are, I did it back then. Have all the emails. FINALLY after 7 emails, the rep sent me a confirmation I would not be billed on August 11, 2011 for another year. Well guess what. They just STOLE and I say STOLE because they did not have authorization to withdraw the money. I am now on my 3rd CSR, screaming at them. EFAX is NOT a company I will ever ever deal with or recommend. THIEVES.

  47. Thanks so much for this helpful info. Just cancelled my service! (Checking my acct over the next couple weeks to confirm there’s no continuing charge!)

  48. 40. How can I cancel my eFax Plus account?
Should you wish to cancel your account, please call Customer Support, at 0870-711-2211 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm GMT). Please note that your account will remain active until your cancellation request is confirmed.

  49. I just canceled my account with eFax after 5 years of satisfied service and it was simple. I called the number, offered a simple explanation – they offered a great offer to stay, but I declined. I received a cancellation number and that was the end. Efax was a valuable asset that I may return to later.

  50. efax.com/cancel gives you the number. The number tells you to go to efax.com/cancel. The way out of the closed loop is to wait for a representative on the phone, then they’re quite quick about it. They’ll offer to give you a couple of months worth of rembursement or to discount the service a little going forward in an effort to keep your business. The phrase “No. Thank you. I would still like to cancel the service.” after each of those drills the idea in relatively quickly. They don’t make it clear, of course, that they’re offering you the refunds in an effort to keep the account open. They just counter “I want to cancel the service” with “I’ll give you your last two months free.” Heh.

Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?

  51. gosh! thank you guys!!!!!!!!!!! i was so frustrated for like 2 months wondering where to get my account cancelled at the same time paying them those fees like an idiot, and i found all of your comments here!!! did even copy one two phrases above and insisted them to let me do so online! yup it went thru and i have got my account cancelled! btw, is there any confirmation on cancellation via written like email or so?

    {- Stanley K.}
Martin, we can understand that currently your are facing financial problems to continue with our service. In this situation we will waive the monthly fee for the next two months. You can use the fax service without any monthly fee for the next two billing cycles.
    {- Stanley K.}
Your eFax account will be credited with AUD 36.00. We are suggesting this so that you can give it a second thought, as you will not be paying any monthly fee for the next 2 billing cycles, usage charges applicable for sending faxes.
    {- Stanley K.}
As you will not be charged the monthly fee for the next two months, you could keep the account till then. If you still feel that you do not have any use for our services by the end of the two months credit period, please feel free to contact us anytime. Will that be fine ?
    {Martin}
no thanks. i’d like to cancel thanks.
    {- Stanley K.}
Martin, you are our valued customer and we appreciate your association with us and I completely understand about your least usage and decision of cancelation, but, since you have already paid for the month, it will be a waste and we do not want you to lose out on the money. I suggest you to retain this number at least till the end of two months credit offer, as you will not be charged any monthly fee for two months. This will ensure the optimum utilization of our service for fees paid.
    {- Stanley K.}
As a good will gesture to continue our association we will offer you an additional gift credit of (AUD 10.00 along with the monthly credit) that will enable you to send up to 100 additional fax pages free of cost (per page per minute within US & Canada).
    {- Stanley K.}
Since you have already paid for the month, it will be a waste and we do not want you to lose out on the money. If you do not wish to continue beyond this waiver period, then there is certainly no obligation to continue. There are no contracts. All you would need to do is, contact us just once, anytime during this credit period to re-confirm your cancellation decision. We are at your service 6AM-6PM Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. I suggest you to give it a try
    {Martin}
    no thanks. i’d like to cancel t o d a y!

  57. I called to cancel my service and it took less then 3 min on the phone. They were nice & helpfull to me and wished me a MerryChristmas.

  58. The service was ok for 5 years, though with hidden charges and lots of calls to get them removed. Very slimey company.. when I went to cancel, they won’t refund the unused portion of my annual fee! Totally unacceptable.

  59. Hi, also had trouble canceling eFax account, it is hard to cancel it if you can never get through to an agent online. Glenn, I am in US but from Ireland and I believe that number is an Irish number, specifically Dublin. Don’t know if that helps.

  60. This is just a scam to take your money. My suggestion is dont even try the trial offer. It is a nightmare to cancel. As you can see by my conversation below. If you noticed below I finished with a threat to complain to the telecommunications ombudsman, this did the trick as I received an email confirming cancellation of my account. Good luck.

    Welcome to chat.

{Brandon R.} Glenn, we’re sorry you want to close your account with us. Would you consider keeping your account, if I completely waive the subscription fee for the next month? You can also keep the same number at a discounted rate at $12.95 after the free month. Now, this will be a 24% discount over current monthly fees. On this eFax Plus plan, you can receive 130 fax pages free every month with a local fax number. Would you like to take advantage of this offer right now?
{Glenn} sorry, but I have been made redundant and I have no further use for a fax service, I appreciate the offer but I would just rather cancel thankyou
{Brandon R.} OK, but before I process your request, note this offer won’t be available once your account is closed. Would you like to keep your account open for now to take advantage of your free month credit? This will give you 30 days to enjoy eFax Plus with no monthly fee. Then if you decide to close your account, just contact us before the next billing period. Otherwise, your eFax Plus account will remain open for your convenience at the discounted rate of just $12.95.
{Glenn} no thankyou, I would rather cancel immediately
{Brandon R.} Okay, I understand and respect your decision for cancellation. I will cancel your account with us immediately.
{Brandon R.} We are sorry that you have decided to leave eFax. We are continuously improving our products and services. If your faxing needs do change in the future, we would be more than happy to have you back.
{Brandon R.} Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
{Brandon R.} Sorry for the above typo.
{Glenn} can I have a confirmation number please?
{Brandon R.} Please ignore the above statement.
    {Glenn} which one?
{Glenn} can I please have a confirmation number
{Brandon R.} Glenn, I apologize for the inconvenience. In order to cancel your account, please contact our Customer Service Department at 353 1 656 4910 as they will be able to better assist you with your request, as I am based in US and do not have access to your billing information.
{Glenn} hello, are you still there?
{Glenn} I have called that number and it is in Spain and conveniently nobody there speaks English. You just told me you were going to cancel it.
{Glenn} why is it that your responses earlier in the conversation were in mere seconds and now they are taking up to 5 minutes?
{Brandon R.} I apologize for the inconvenience. The Team needs to be contacted as they have the training, expertise and system access to address your request. Again, I do sincerely apologize of the inconvenience and urge you to contact our support team.
{Glenn} they dont speak english and I dont speak spanish
{Glenn} I refuse to make another expensive international call that gets me nowhere. i will contact the telecommunications ombudsman and lodge a complaint about this service.

  61. I have been thrilled with efax and the service, however, I changed careers, and no longer need it. Of course they attempted to resell it to me, but looks like a sucessful cancel!

  62. wow reading all these chat sessions cancelling eFax accounts is unbelievable. They run the script everytime and doesn’t care about your response. Good thing you guys cancelled your accounts successfully.

  63. Hi, my name is Sarah and I am an analyst at Balestriere Lanza, a trials and investigations law firm in New York. Our firm has been investigating eFax’s potential misconduct for several months and would be interested in hearing more from you about all of your experiences. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience at sarah.goodman at balestriere.net or at (212) 374-5400 x 132.

  64. Tried email and calling today which did not work unless you ignore their phone tree rules. I made contact with a live TECHNICAL SUPPORT person who claims to have canceled my account, but you have to persist they cancel it now. The proof will be my next month’s cc statement, if it’s canceled there won’t be a charge. TBC

  65. I called the 323-817-3205 local number and chose option 2 – technical support, waited about one minute and then told the rep I wanted to cancel and after a few questions and only one attempt to upgrade my service, our account was cancelled. It took less than 5 minutes.

  66. Trying to cancel an account. Have gone throught the chat process. They said no refund whatsoever. I am calling the 800 line and they are telling me no refund whatsoever -not even prorated. I told them that it was totally an unacceptable business practice and that we would be cancelling all our company accounts. Still on hold, but grateful for all the information here to give me some encouragement to persevere!

  67. I had problems on efax too.

I switched to MyFax… I was referred to it by a friend at a large company that already uses it… check out http://tiny.cc/bekfL …. you can get the service for $4.95 per month… half of the regular price… without the efax bullshit.

  68. How to cancel an eFax account in Five Easy Steps

    Welcome to chat.
    The session has been accepted.

{Craig T.} Hello, Bob. Welcome to j2 Global online support. I am Craig, your online, Live Support Representative. How can I help you?

{Bob D.} hello – please consider this message as my authorized and only instruction to cancel my efax account.

{Craig T.} I am sorry to hear that you wish to cancel. Please provide me your fax number as well as the PIN for verification.

    { Bob D.} 650-xxx-xxxx

xxxx is pin I believe and am verifying

{ Craig T.} Thank you for providing your information. Please give me a moment while I go through your records. In the meantime, please type the number corresponding to your reason for cancellation:

    1) Moving to another provider
    2) Bought a fax machine
    3) Business or role changed
    4) Short term project completed
    5) Financial reasons
    6) Problems with faxing or billing
    7) Dissatisfied with quality of service
    8) Too costly

    { Bob D.} 2

{Craig T.} Thank you, please give me a moment.

    {Bob D.} okay

{Craig T.} We really value your long standing association and relationship with us. In the current scenario, as a goodwill gesture, we will waive off the monthly fee for the next two billing cycles. Usage charges for faxes sent, would be applicable. This way, you can use this number for all of two billing cycles, for sending or receiving any pending faxes.

{Craig T.} Your eFax account will be credited with $33.90 so that you can use it for the next two billing cycles at zero monthly fees.

{Craig T.} If you find any use for your eFax account during this time, then you will still have the account, otherwise, you can always contact us back anytime before this period ends, to confirm your decision. We are here to assist you anytime you wish to contact us back. Will that be fine with you?

{ Bob D.} I appreciate the gesture however I have already instructed American Express to refuse any further charges from eFax and it would be six weeks before I could even accept your offer now that that dispute process is initiated.

{Craig T.} Bob, is there any problem because of which you have initiated this process? If you would have let us know earlier, then we could have addressed your issue accordingly.

{Craig T.} Please note, even if you accept the above offer, and, if you do not wish to continue beyond this waiver period, then, there is no obligation. All you need to do is, contact us just once, anytime by the end of this credit period to confirm.

{ Bob D.} No problem I have been very satisfied with your service. Without a process to cancel the service in writing and only via this chat however it was prudent to initiate the dispute process with American Express in order to assure that cancellation was achieved with confidence.

    { Bob D.} .
{Craig T.} Bob, that was unnecessary, and we say it with the intention of assuring you that if you have come here with no intention of staying back, then, there, is no way, we would keep your account active and charge you again.

{Craig T.} We are very sorry to hear that you are leaving us. We will cancel the account immediately. If ever your faxing needs change, please do consider our service. We will be glad to have you as our customer.

{Craig T.} Is there anything else I may assist you with?

{ Bob D.} Thank you very much for cancelling the account. I would be happy to fill out a survey if you have one to note the excellent customer service you have provided.

{Craig T.} Thank you, Bob. You will get a survey form to fill up once this chat session ends.

{Craig T.} Thank you for taking the time. Appreciate it.

{ Bob D.} You are very welcome. Have a good evening.

{Craig T.} Wish you too a pleasant evening.

{Craig T.} Thank you for contacting j2 Global Online Support.

{Craig T.} Bye and take care.

    { Bob D.} adieu

  69. Hi,

Thx for this message, I was looking for the link too!

I just called them and now they are gonna cancel my account :) .

  70. Hey, found another nice service which won’t allow me to cancel my account online, yet they will happily allow me to sign up any which way.
What ever you do, don’t use http://www.efax.com (there are many other good fax gateway alternatives) as there is no way to cancel your account.
Check out there great customer service policy about cancelling accounts https://www.efax.com/en/intl/product/page/faq#40.
I then went on to their live chat service and spoke to 2 people who didn’t help.. and quite simply just refused to help at all.

Nice one eFax and every other company who operates like this. You’re really building loyalty.

    Matt

  71. Please Cancel this account. Pattie is no longer with the company and we wish to discontinue the service. I can be reached @ 407-324-2377.
    Thank You
    Lynda Dubois, Bookkeeper

  72. A possible workaround: The cancellation chat link didn’t work for me, so I tried chatting with the sales department. The rep there suggested I call the 323 number and do nothing until a live person answered, which I did. After hearing the “two months free” pitch and declining it, I was then able to cancel the account with that live person quickly, easily, and cordially.

  73. Company truly sucks. I only saw an international number in the UK to cancel. I ended up finding a way to do it via chat. Downgrading the account to free is not possible, so as a punishment for having tried to upgrade and changing my mind, I will lose the free efax # I’ve had for years. Which is horrible customer experience and makes me enjoy blacklisting the company and never using their services again.

  74. You guys are too uptight. Just tell them no a few times and its done. Not that hard, but don’t use firefox. Safari worked for me. And remember, count to 10.

  75. Yea I’ve cancelled accounts with so many different companies, but never before has the process been so difficult. I swear I cancelled the account months ago but they were still billing me 16.95 a month.

I called the 323 area code number and there they told me about the http://www.j2.com/cancel link. I went there, and at first it didn’t want to load (I’m using Firefox on Linux). In the chat session their employee wouldn’t take no for an answer. He kept offering me 2 months for free, and when I turned that down he offered me a $10.00 gift usage balance offer which he reminded me about over and over again. Finally I told him to cancel it because I will never have use for their services again as long as I live. He happily cancelled the service, but not without asking me once again that I wish to pass up on his offers.

  76. i have Never heard of a company with a NO REFUND POLICY! they took 1 year payment from by bank account also, and didn’t notify me. I WAS SUPER ANGRY!!! AND THEN THEY TELL ME, THEY CANNOT REFUND MY MONEY? I ASKED, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH MY MONEY? BECAUSE I HAVE CANCELLED MY SERVICE WITH YOU. WAS TOLD “SORRY” WE CANT REFUND YOUR MONEY!!! THEY ARE A BIG RIP OFF! RIGHT NOW MY BANK IS LOOKING INTO GETTTING BACK MY MONEY.

  77. You can only cancel via “live” chat by going to http://www.efax.com/cancel. It will take about 10 minutes. By the way I canceled because their fax only works with a dedicated fax line. It will not work with a fax that has an answering machine attached. Their fax query tone shuts off as soon as it detects an answering machine pick-up (unlike a “real” fax transmission) Of course they don’t tell you that in their ad.

  78. I was charged $163.48 for one year of service from EFax in July 2007. I had tried to cancel my service, but they stated they had a NO REFUND policy and urged me to keep the account active for the year before I cancelled so I would at least get use of the year I had just paid for. So I kept it active but specifically marked it my calendar to cancel my EFax # and service on June 30, 2008.

Before the year was even up, EFax charged my credit card for another year of service on for $169.50 in May 2008, even though I never authorized any type of auto-payment. I went ahead and tried to cancel the service on June 29,2008, before my year term from the previous charge in 2007 should have been up. Upon the cancellation of my account, I was notified AGAIN that there is a NO REFUND policy with this company. EFax refused to issue a credit. The EFax representative urged me to keep the account for the remainder of the year, as I would not be receiving a refund anyway; this is exactly how EFax got me to keep my account for the previous year after the charge in 2007!

This time around though, they charged my account without my authorization“ it was before the year-end for my current term so I was well within a reasonable timeframe to cancel my service, they did NOT notify me before any charge was made, and they did not even have the right billing address or current credit card number correct for my account (they had my previous credit card number, but the charge still went through as my old credit card number is tied to my new card number).

EFax refuses to budge on their no refund policy, so I am now working with my credit card company to handle this matter. My advice is to save yourself the headache and DON’T get fax to email service with this company, who obviously has no regard or appreciation for their customers AT ALL.

  79. Holy crap, I hate eFax. I got duped into signing up by a bogus employer on Craigslist, here’s my ‘chat’:

    Welcome to chat.
    The session has been accepted.

{Megan F.} Hello, Alistair. Welcome to j2 Global online support. I am Megan, your online Live Support Representative. How may I assist you?

{Alistair} Incidentally, I appreciate your time.
{Megan F.} It is my pleasure assisting you.
{Megan F.} I am sorry to hear that you wish to cancel. Can you please provide me with your Fax number which you wish to cancel and PIN for verification?
    {Alistair} Sure thing:
    eFax Number:
    1-918-512-4486

{Alistair} I don’t suppose there’s any wa yt orecoup that money, since I never actually used the eFax service?
{Megan F.} Thank you for providing your information. Please give me a moment while I go through your records. In the meantime, please type the number corresponding to your reason for cancellation:

    1) Moving to another provider
    2) Bought a fax machine
    3) Business or role changed

    5) Financial reasons
    6) Problems with faxing or billing
    7) Dissatisfied with quality of service
    8) Too costly
{Alistair} None of the above, although 3 or 4 could work.

{Alistair} Thankyou, but I have never used the service ,and have no intention of using it. The ONLY reason I used it was because I was duped by a bogus employer into signing up- it’s bad enough you guys took 50 or so of my dollars.
{Megan F.} Your eFax account will be credited with $33.90.I suggest that you make use of our service at least for the 2 months credit period, so that you can receive and send any pending faxes as you will not be paying any monthly fee for the next 2 billing cycles. {Megan F.} I realize that you might not need it again, but, I suggest you to retain this number at least till the end of two months credit offer as you will not be charged any monthly fee for the two months. {Alistair} Please cancel the account and/or refund my money. Thank you.
{Megan F.} Alistair, I am sorry as there is no refund applicable.
{Alistair} I figured not, you guys must enjoy taking people’s money. Wish I could do that at my job (retail electronics). I understand however- just please, cancel this account.
{Megan F.} Okay, I understand and respect your decision for cancellation. I will cancel your account with us immediately.
{Megan F.} Is there anything else, I can assist you with?
{Alistair} Not really- I am curious though, are you in the USA?

No response from here, go figure.

  80. Just be firm and don’t give in (I learned this from cancelling AOL accounts for friends who had tried but were bullied by the phone agents) and you can get your Efax account cancelled using chat. Here’s a transcript:

{Kevin B.} Yes, the confirmation number is 004891391.
    {Ray} halleluia …. thank you!

  81. For anyone who cares, now the ONLY way to cancel is to go to http://www.efax.com/cancel and have a ‘chat’ (more like listen to a monologue as to how affordable efax is and how they’ll comp you to stay) with an associate. Here’s my experience: (you may want to hit the bathroom or grab a snack before beginning)

    Welcome to chat.
    The session has been accepted.

{Fred H.} Yes, you will be refunded.
{Mike} Excellent. Thank you Fred. Have a good day.

  82. I hate to toot my own horn but if you are looking for an affordable Internet Fax Service, this is the company I work for. 1000 pages for $12.95, just 3 cents per page thereafter per month. :-)

  83. signing up with e-fax has been a terrible mistake – firstly there are hidden costs (i.e activation fess) also their billing is prone to ‘errors’ where they charge for several months in advance and then go on to charge for those months again later.Cancelling their subscription has been a great relief.

  84. Don’t get an efax account. Here is what I wrote to them in the feedback section.

I am very upset with e-fax. Your prices are too high and I am very angry with you for making it so hard to cancel. I know you advertise on the radio a lot and I am convinced you are taking advantage of people.

You have a terrible phone system.

I can’t believe it is so hard to cancel. I got disconnected 3 times from your phone line.

Your phone menu is terribly confusing!

And now I have to use a typing chat line to cancel my account. This is awful. I will tell all of my friends to avoid this service. Do you know how irritating this is. You remind me of AOL (America Online) they were just as bad as you are. Get to the top by making it hard for people to cancel. I am so disappointed with you. You are the example of Free Market Capitalism gone wrong.

I have been waiting on this chat room for a few minutes now. That gives me all this time to write you this feedback. I have had better experiences at the DMV (the Department of Motor Vehicles)!! I’d rather pay taxes to the US Government than deal with your company.

  85. Just cancelled by phone after a trial period (and a very good one I might add).
The person I spoke to was very courteous. He asked if I wanted a further month trialing eFax – which I declined. No pressure.
I am however hoping to sign on to the service at some point.

  86. I called the number to cancel the service and you are correct they will try to offer you additional service for a credit of $33.90 for two month free. But I said no, please cancel my service and the rep. cancel the service and said that I will be receiving an e-mail with the cancellation reference number.

  87. Just spent an hour trying to make contact on chat to cancel account…. sigh… will try calling them now.

  88. just cancelled! said i was leaving the country and would never need faxes. job done within 10 mins they tried ever so hard but i kept saying no. wow persevere and you’ll get there! :)

  89. Thanks for the info. I fell in the typically trap, called first the 1-800 #, went to the website and spent 30min on it, chatted with a CRM script and finally threaten the client service representative at the number above with my lawyers if the efax account would not get closed today. That worked.

  90. I would like to cancel my efax account, since I am moving from the State. My efax# 561-431-8538.
I will be closing my checking acc. with the Bank. Please close the efax account ASAP.

  91. Just tried to cancel my account as well. There chat applet doesn’t seem to work in IE 6.0 or Firefox.. WTF? Maybe that’s by design – trying to put as many hurdles as possible in front of us to prevent us from canceling. Reminds me of AOL. I called and spoke to someone about canceling after that, and their accent was so thick I could barely understand what she was saying, which was that their systems are down and she can’t cancel the account right now. I wonder if its easier just to call the credit card company, explain that you made a reasonable effort to cancel the service and to charge back everything. After a while EFax will get the hint.

  92. Hi,
Thanks for the good info. I’m looking into your other fax suggestions. Looks like they’ve taken away the option for calling. Now the phone tree sends you back to that idiotic, non-functioning chat on their website. Sigh. I will try in another browser (didn’t work in FireFox).

  93. Damn, everything you said about the chat and the chat link to cancel service doesn’t work – just calling that number is the best way to cancel.

  94. I just sent them an E-MAIL, asking them to CANCEL my account.
I guess it worked. I got no reply. I am NOT being billed by them.
