A new website provides listings of “Covid safe” and “Covid cautious” providers for those who are at high risk for catching Covid, such as the immunocompromised, people with asthma, and others who need to or simply want to avoid getting Covid. The Covid Safe Providers website not only lists Covid-safe doctors, Covid-cautious dentists, and the like, but also lists Covid-safe and Covid-cautious service providers such as Covid-safe furnace and air conditioning repair services, home appliance repair, mechanics, and even notary services.

CovidSafeProviders.com, whose tagline is “Helping you find Covid-safe providers and services because you shouldn’t have to compromise your health”, explains that their site is “for all of you Covid-cautious people who are at very high risk for Covid, and who have been living in self-isolation trying to keep themselves safe from both Covid and the ravages of long Covid. Come out from the shadows, we’re here and we see you!”

The site, which was launched just ten weeks ago, already has more than 120 listings, and is closing in on having already provided information to 10,000 visitors.

There are listings for local providers in many states, as well as for providers who provide remote and video chat options. There are also listings of mobile services that will come to your house on both a local (for example veterinarians with mobile clinics, mobile phlebotomists who draw your blood at home and take it to a lab, and hairdressers) and on a national level (1-800-BATTERY, for example, is a national chain that will come to you to install a new battery in your car). There are also many online services listed, such as online notary public services that can operate in most of the 50 states, and lots and lots of therapists and mental health professionals who offer teletherapy sessions through Zoom-like services. There are online services where you video chat with an appliance repair person or plumber, show them the issue, and they tell you how to fix it yourself with them guiding you during the video chat. There’s even a Covid-safe online CPR certification that mails the practice manikin to your door!

There are also providers listed in Canada, including two restaurants in Toronto that have gone to extreme measures to make their restaurants safe for people to eat in comfort and know they won’t be exposed to Covid (these include industrial air exchangers, and Plexiglas dividers between tables).

The Internet Patrol is completely free, and we don't subject you to ads or annoying video pop-ups. But it does cost us out of our pocket to keep the site going (going on 20 years now!) So your tips via CashApp, Venmo, or Paypal are VERY appreciated! Receipts will come from ISIPP.

Each has provider has their own listing which includes a map and driving directions if they are a local provider. In addition there is a separate overview map showing all of the locations with providers to date. Finally there are state-by-state listings, and listings of mobile, national, and remote providers. Pretty much any way that you can slice and dice the listings, Covid Safe Providers has done so to make it as easy as possible for you to find a provider.

The vast majority of the listings have been submitted to the site by people who have had direct experience with a given provider, sharing details of what made them a ‘Covid safe’ provider, as well as what accommodations the provider may have made specifically for them. For example, in recommending a Covid-safe hairdresser in Fort Collins, Colorado, one person explained “When I arrived, she was already wearing a cute, pink, well-fitting KN95, so I didn’t feel I had to ask her to upgrade her mask or hand her a wrapped N95. We then both were in KN95s for the whole haircut, and were the only two people in the shop the entire time. Her salon is a small place, she kept the door open for ventilation”.
