Gang Members Tagged with GPS

Gang members in San Bernardino county are being banded with GPS tags, in an effort to track paroled gang members to make sure that they don’t go back to their old stomping ground and have contact with other members of their gang. The idea is that the authorities will know where they are at all times, and so they won’t go back to their gang’s territory.

Ah, good plan. Because we all know that there is an impenatrable wall around gang territories, and the parolee’s old cronies can’t possibly leave that area to go meet them somewhere else.

So far 35 parolees have been GPS tagged, and emboldened by their efforts, San Bernardino county is actually asking for the state to spend tax dollars funding a county-wide pilot program.

As envisioned, the program would “require GPS devices be worn by any individual paroled into San Bernardino County when that person’s original conviction had a gang enhancement attached to the sentence.”

Said a spokesperson for San Bernardino County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, “I’m not aware of any other county in the state that is doing this.”

  1. Except the GPS tag be implanted in the brain, it shall be adeptly removed by the happily fugative gangsta. yo CilyPudi

  2. Even though gang members can meet outside of their territory, officials would be able to know if several of them are in the same location at the same time.

Perhaps the GPS monitoring can be the most effective at stopping gang activity, considering the available resources.

If a gun was used in the crime, a 200-pound steel ball should also be attached to one or both of the convicted’s ankles, with a 6″ chain. Or perhaps attached to their neck…
