Listen up, Apple aficionados! The moment we’ve all been eagerly twiddling our thumbs for is nearly upon us. Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 is about to unleash a storm of tech wizardry this Monday. Apart from unveiling its spanking new software, iOS 17, and watchOS 10, the rumor mill is in overdrive that Apple will also let loose its much-whispered-about mixed reality headset. But, wait, there’s more! Apple might even roll out new Macs, giving our Monday blues a silver lining.

The WWDC 2023, according to Bloomberg’s very own oracle, Mark Gurman, is predicted to be a virtual cornucopia of new Macs and a mixed reality headset, while the newest software versions cheer from the sidelines.

The star of the event is speculated to be Apple’s mixed reality headset, unofficially dubbed “Apple Reality Pro.” Apple’s been laboring on this showstopper for years, making it the most awaited act since the Apple Watch’s debut in 2014. In a first, Apple has invited a troupe of VR experts to witness the event in person, signaling that the much-anticipated headset could finally make its grand entrance.

The software saga, on the other hand, seems to be taking a breather this time around. The upcoming updates are expected to be more like a gentle wave rather than a tech tsunami. No major shakeups are rumored for macOS 14, tvOS 17, and iPadOS 17. However, watchOS 10 may be in for a facelift, and iOS 17 might toss in new customization options for the Lock Screen and a spiffy Control Center.

The chatter about new Macs seems to be lost in a cloud of ambiguity. The grapevine has been abuzz about a new 15-inch MacBook Air for a while. However, word on the street is that Apple’s been tinkering with new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models armed with the M3 chip, and a 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the same might also be in the works.

The “several Macs” predicted by Gurman to grace the event remain a mystery. Despite the recent M2 chip upgrade for the Mac mini and the high-end MacBook Pro versions, another update seems like a long shot. The iMac seems to be a likely candidate, but insiders suggest that Apple might give the M2 chip a miss for its all-in-one desktop.

So what else could be up Apple’s sleeve? A likely bet could be the Apple Silicon Mac Pro and a new version of the Mac Studio, which is still riding on the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips. Interestingly, Apple’s been prepping its retail stores to accept the Mac Studio in its trade-in program starting next week.

But here’s the kicker: the M2 MacBook Air and the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro will also be added to the trade-in program. So, does this mean that new M3 MacBooks and a new Mac Studio are on the horizon? Or could the Apple Silicon Mac Pro be making its debut? Who knows? But one thing’s for sure, the prospect of new Macs is tantalizingly close. So, if you’re mulling over buying a new computer, holding off for a few days might not be a bad idea.

WWDC 2023’s opening keynote will light up your screens on Monday, June 5, at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET.
