YourMove.ai is a new AI dating app with a twist: it’s basically like an AI dating chatbot; you tell it what the other person said, and the YourMove.ai AI dating bot tells you how to respond. Or if you’d like to initiate a conversation with someone you find interesting on a dating app (such as Bumble or Tinder) or a dating site (such as Match or OKCupid), then you give it a topic and it gives you some opening lines.
Now, of course the first thing that we wondered, given what YourMove.ai does, is why didn’t they call it Cyrano.ai, after that famous penner of sweet, sweet nothings, Cyrano de Bergerac? Well, the answer (assuming that they had even wanted to call it Cyrano) is that there is already a Cyrano.ai, which has been in business (or at least registered) since 2017! (You see it only seems as if the AI stuff is new and all the rage, because now it’s getting all of that press coverage, what with ChatGPR and all; but actually it’s been around for quite a while).
So we put YourMove.ai to the test; you can test it online, with your browser, before you commit to either downloading the app or to paying for the paid version. With the online free version you can submit 5 queries per day (it tracks your usage by forcing you either register with your email address, or log in with Google).
When you type in a query, either for suggested responses to a message that you have received on a dating app or site, or for ‘Openers’, which is what YourMove.ai calls opening lines, the system will suggest three different options from which to chose.
There is also an option to upload a screenshot which, as you will see, is a bit, er, buggy,

Our Editor in Chief graciously donated an actual overture she had received a few years ago through an online dating site, and which she had screen-captured for posterity. First, she wants us to let you know that she did not respond to this person at all.
This is a real opening line she received on a dating site:
First we typed in the last line, and eagerly awaited YourMove’s suggested responses.
YourMove.ai suggested she respond with either:
Mind if I ask if your breasts are enhanced?
Ha! Sorry, they’re all-natural. But I’m flattered you think they could be enhanced ????
OR
Haha, well I can assure you they’re all natural. But I’m glad they caught your attention ;)
OR, weirdest was this response, suggesting that YourMove can’t distinguish the gender of the person to whom it is responding, or for whom it is responding.
Well, I don’t have breasts (laughs). But if you’re referring to my pecs, nope they’re all natural. (Perhaps gender detection is part of what you get if you sign up for the premium version.)
Again, none suggesting the stony silence with which our Editor-in-Chief assures us the question was met.
Next we uploaded the screenshot of the same (one-sided) conversation. Apparently in this case YourMove recognized the masherness of the guy’s opening gambit, and instead of offering up responses (which it was supposed to do) it offered follow-up lines for the person who had sent the question:
Sorry, that was inappropriate and insensitive. My apologies. Is there anything else you’d like to know?
OR
Sorry about that last message, it was inappropriate and disrespectful. Can we start over? My name is _________”
OR
Oops, scratch that last message. I didn’t mean to be forward like that. Can we start again? Hi, my name is ____________”
Finally we tried the ‘Openers’ option, in which the system suggests an opening line based on your giving it a topic. Given that we are headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, we naturally suggested the topic ‘hiking’. This yielded three suggested opening lines which we’re pretty sure don’t require AI with which to come up, but YourMove at least gets a B- for effort:
Do you have a favorite hiking trail?
Have you ever hiked to a place with an incredible view? If so, where was it?
What trail have you been itching to hit?
We suppose that such an AI-based app to help tongue-tied singles to partner up was inevitable, but we have to wonder what happens when they are on that first in-person date, and their tongue needs to be untied under their own steam.
