For those of you who haven’t already heard, Amazon is offering a new short story download service, Amazon Shorts. It’s really cool, in that it offers new short stories, not available anywhere else, by authors including some very well known, and well-loved, authors (Robin Cook, Danielle Steel, and Harry S. Dent, to name a few. Hey, even Howie Mandel!)

Now, here’s something really cool: you can have these Amazon Shorts delivered as plain text by email. Which means that you can read them wherever you get email, and on your PDA.

It also means that you can run it through your Mac’s text-speaking Speech service.

Now, that is nifty! Perhaps not quite as nifty as if Amazon were offering podcasts of the shorts in the author’s own voice, but nifty none-the-less, and all for only 49 cents each!

So, if you too want to play with spoken shorts, check out Amazon Shorts.
