Yahoo Music Unlimited may just become a bit more limited, as Yahoo has raised the prices for Yahoo Music Unlimited.

In fact, the price for Yahoo Music Unlimited has doubled, according to an email sent out by Yahoo late last night. The monthly subscription fee of $4.99 has been raised to $9.99 (prepaid annually at $119.88).

For those who don’t want to prepay Yahoo Music Unlimited annually, the month-to-month rate has jumped from $6.99 to $11.99 per month.

I hasten to add that this is for customers who want to be able to download the music without the DRM (digital rights management) protection, so that they can transfer the music to their music playing devices, such as an iPod.

Said the email which Yahoo sent out about the price increase, “We are committed to offering our customers the most competitive pricing possible for digital music and we hope you continue to enjoy your experience with Yahoo Music Unlimited.”

Wait, let me translate that for you. That’s in Yahoo’ese. What they really meant was:

“We are committed to charging our customers the most we possibly can for digital music and we hope you continue to pay for your experience with Yahoo Music Unlimited.”

Still, Yahoo is charging only .79 cents for the same thing for which iTunes charges .99, but you don’t have to pay iTunes $4.99-$11.99 a month. You can also download songs from Yahoo without a subscription, for .99 per song.

  1. I thought the introductory price was just that: introductory. And now, the full price is revealed. *shrug*
