Microsoft has taken the unusual step of foreshadowing the release of an upcoming Windows security bulletins.

On Thursday, December 9th, Microsoft announced on its TechNet site that it would announce on the following Tuesday, December 14th, “5 Microsoft Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Windows”.

Microsoft also announced that “The greatest maximum severity rating for these security updates is Important”, and that some users may have to restart their computers following the updates.

Not only did Microsoft not offer any more insight into the upcoming security updates, but they made a point of saying that !–more–> they would not share anything more until Tuesday. In fact, they say on the site, “No additional details about bulletin severities or vulnerabilities will be made available until December 14 , 2004.”

This will be Microsoft’s third security bulletin this month, and at least the thirtieth this year.

So keep an eye out on Tuesday; Aunty will report the bulletin for you as soon as it’s in her hot little hands. Or, you can read about it yourself at the Microsoft TechNet Security site.
