The hashtag #SuziParkerScoops is swirling around Twitter in response to Washington Post columnist Suzi Parker reporting that Sarah Palin will be the new host for the Al Jazeera America channel. To be clear, Sarah Palin is not the new host. It was just last month that a satirical article from the Onion named North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un the Sexiest Man Alive for 2012, causing Asian media to report the story as if it were real. It seems comedy has, once again, been mistaken for reality by way of Parker mistakenly reporting the satirical story, which was jokingly reported by The Daily Currant.

Al Jazeera is a news channel based in the Persian Gulf, and they have recently arranged to broadcast in the United States. For the record, a spokesperson for Al Jazeera has set the record straight, saying “no discussions have taken place.”

The fake partnership in question was first ‘reported’ in an article in the Daily Current, which is a satirical news site, and which reported Palin as telling them, “As you know, I’m not a big fan of newspapers, journalists, news anchors and the liberal media in general, but I met with the folks at Al-Jazeera and they told me they reach millions of devoutly religious people who don’t watch CBS or CNN. They tell me they don’t have a liberal bias.”

Palin, who has always been vocal about her dislike of the “media elite,” shot back a few tweets to voice her opinion about the situation:

“A @washingtonpost writer once promised not to write about me for a month. That was a good month for me. #idiotmedia”

“Hey @washingtonpost, I’m having coffee with Elvis this week. He works at the Mocha Moose in Wasilla. #suziparkerscoops #idiotmedia”

And directing one tweet at Suzi Parker herself:

@suziparker Nah. Turned ’em down. Their $22 million offer was too low…. just kidding. Really. #suziparkerscoops #idiotmedia

It didn’t take long for #suziparkerscoops to start trending, with a range of Twitter users offering satirical scoops for the poor Ms. Parker:

@Doc_0 #suziparkerscoops Soylent Green is tasty, nutritious, and totally not made of people.

@hale_razor #suziparkerscoops Sarah Palin opens new clothing store for the female hunter: Cariboutique.

@RBPundit #suziparkerscoops Fox News to air a new segment on Hannity titled “Cool Black Republicans.”

@RBPundit #suziparkerscoops Sarah Palin taking speech lessons to get rid of her tendency to say “betcha.”

@BradThor #suziparkerscoops Palin to drown sack of kittens in river today after stopping by orphanage to remind the children no one loves them.

The Washington Post did quickly retract their story, but of course the Twittersphere is not keen to let the issue drop so quickly. But poor Suzi Parker shouldn’t take it to heart – she is by far not the dumbest person to be mocked on Twitter and it won’t be long before someone else comes along to steal the spotlight.
