Summary: Vidstone's Serenity Panel is a video headstone which allows graveside visitors to celebrate the life of the dearly departed. Sergio Aguirre invented the video headstone after a personal experience, which lead to his developing the Serenity Panel, which is solar-powered, and well-protected from the elements.

The Serenity Panel, by Vidstone, is a solar-powered video screen which is embedded in a headstone, and plays up to seven minutes of video celebrating the deceased’s life.

The brain child of telecommunications worker Sergio Aguirre, the Vidstone Serenity Panel was conceived during memorial service and subsequent interment of Aguirre’s own father-in-law. As Aguirre explains it, during the memorial everyone was very sad, with tears flowing freely. Then a video screen rolled down, and an image of his father-in-law, martini in hand and adorned in a pink feather boa and top hat, started off a video tribute. Says Aguirre, “And so everybody started chuckling and smiling and the tears kind of cleared up.”

That moment put the seeds in his head, and they came to full flower when he was at the cemetery for the interment. Looking around at the large and often beautiful headstones, Aguirre realized that a similar video available to those visiting the gravesides of loved ones could cheer them up and help them to remember their dearly departed with a smile.

The Vidstone Serenity Panel has a cover which is also the solar collector. When flipped open, the video starts to play. According to Vidstone, 4 hours of sun will allow the video to play continuously for 90 minutes.

The video headstone is expected to sell for approximately $1500, and the company is currently taking pre-orders, as well as signing up distributors, at Vidstone.com.

Now, who will be the first to pair this with a solar-powered wifi-enabled headstone-cam, so that the families of the deceased can see who is visiting?
