Twitter is fed up, and their not going to take it any more. The thing with which they are apparently fed up is spammers polluting people’s Twitter streams with everything from “make money fast” scheme sites to porn. And so Twitter has added a “this is spam” button (well, actually a “report for spam” link) to everybody’s profile, so that now you can report them to Twitter HQ with a single click. Previously, to report a spammer on Twitter one had to send a message to the Twitter account “@spam”. In a blog post entitled “Help us nail spammers”, Twitter gal Jenna Dawn explains “Today we’ve added another tool to our spam fighting toolbox that will give users the ability to flag bad accounts on Twitter.” Jenna Dawn adds that “Folks can now help us conquer spam by calling our attention to a profile they find questionable. Click the “Report as spam” button under the Actions section of a profile’s sidebar and our Trust and Safety team will check it out to see what needs to be done.” Twitter says that reporting someone as spamming won’t result in their being automatically sanctioned, but it will result in them being blocked from following or @contacting you.

NOTE: We never, ever, ever will recommend any product or service on this site that we have not regularly used ourselves and do not wholeheartedly believe in. That said, in some cases after being very pleased with a product or service, we may enter into a relationship with the provider of that product or service such that if someone purchases that product or service based on our recommendation, we may get a small payment. Such payments go towards the upkeep of the Internet Patrol.

Nice! Now we can at least have some weapon against Twitter spammers!
