Tivo has just announced that they have added two new formats allowing for free iPod downloads and free PSP downloads for users of their TivoToGo service. The TivoToGo service is a free feature provided to Tivo customers. The inclusion of the iPod video download and PSP video download formats expands the service beyond the formats currently available to TivoToGo users.

What this means is that you can now record a show on your Tivo, and then transfer it to your Apple iPod or Sony PSP, for later playback. In order to get around copyright concerns, Tivo plans to include a unique watermark in every download, which will trace the video copy directly to the customer.

According to Tom Rogers, CEO of Tivo, “The increasing popularity of mobile devices for viewing video such as Apple’s iPod and the PSP device demonstrate the enormous consumer demand for entertainment on the go. By enhancing our TiVo ToGo™ feature, we’re making it easy for consumers to enjoy the TV shows they want to watch right from their iPod or PSP —whenever and wherever they want.”

The iPod video download and Sony PSP video download capabilities of TivoToGo will include an autosync feature which allow users to automatically transfer newly recorded shows to their iPod video or PSP.
