In a novel use of email campaigns, TiVo has emailed a group of journalists, offering them a special $200 off their new TiVo Humax DVR. Yet TiVo denies that it is trying to drum up journalistic support or - gasp - coverage for its newest TiVo DVR.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course.

In fact, said David Shane, a spokesperson for TiVo, “That’s far-fetched.”

Uh huh.

The email read, in relevant part:

“Over the years, many of you have asked whether TiVo offers a discount to members of the press. Today, courtesy of TiVo and our strategic partner Humax, we are pleased to announce a limited Media Accommodation Program and extend to you and your family an offer that is valid until April 30.”

Suuure you’re not trying to buy favourable press.

To be fair, the discount is also being offered to existing customers, but all others have to pay full price.
