Reuters is reporting today that China has blocked its citizens’ access to the English-language version of Google News, instead providing access to a special, sanitized Chinese-language version which it has arranged with Google.

According to media watchdog group Reporters Without Borders, China has been blocking the English-language site for the past 10 days, now that the Chinese-language version, which has “politically sensitive” stories filtered out, is in place.

Interestingly, Reuters found that they were blocked from accessing the Chinese-language version of Google News.

Reporters Without Borders has accused Google of complicity with the Chinese government. “By agreeing to launch a news service that excludes publications disliked by the government, Google has let itself be used by Beijing,” they said in a statement released earlier this week.
