Spybot Search Destroy for Windows XP (more properly known as Spybot Search & Destroy for Windows XP, but for some reason lots of people leave out that pesky little ampersand) is one of the top rated anti-spyware programs out there, particularly of the free ones.

As you can imagine, here at the Internet Patrol we hear a lot about spyware, and we get a lot of questions about what to do about it. Spybot Search & Destroy for Windows XP is one program which has a reputation for really detecting and getting rid of spyware, with a minimum of fuss. Easy enough to use for the novice user, but powerful enough for the power user, Spybot Search & Destroy for Windows XP consistently gets high marks from users of all levels.

According to CNET in their review of the free software, “Of the antispyware software we tested, Spybot was the best, finding every possible pest in our tests, with very little impact on our system’s performance. Its default mode is easy to use and perfect for home users; its advanced mode offers features that will please most high-end users.”

Spybot Search and Destroy also works out of the box with Windows 98 and Windows ME (nice!), and with some tweaking will also work with 95, NT, and Win2K.

Spybot Search and Destroy is available from Safer-Networking.org
