Sprint and Disney have announced today that Sprint will provide the underlying service for Disney’s newest offering: Disney Mobile. Disney Mobile is a cellular communication service designed to meet the “unique communications needs of families.” What, they’ve figured out a way to actually get the kids to listen when the parents talk to them?

The wireless market is booming, and with portable numbers and nearly-disposable phones, cell phone customers are a fickle lot. And that’s just what Disney is banking on.

Disney Mobile will include Disney-branded phones, special software applications, and unique entertainment content, all designed to make Disney fans who are crazy for the Mouse equally crazy for the phone.

It’s hard not to wonder what sorts of phones and accessories Disney will offer. Mouse-ear shaped headsets? Voicemail recordings in the voices of your favourite Disney stars? And of course the “princess phone” will never be the same again.

The service is slated to be offered in 2006.
