OVERLAND PARK, Kan., May 17 /PRNewswire/ — Beginning today, Sprint
(NYSE: FON) wireless customers across the nation with phones capable of
receiving text messages can assist authorities searching for abducted
children. Sprint is among the first wireless carriers to provide this opt-in
service that delivers free wireless text-message AMBER Alerts and enables
customers to assist law enforcement in the search for and return of a child.

“Sprint customers can now harness the power of wireless data in another
truly important and innovative way,” said Len Lauer, president and chief
operating officer for Sprint. “Our partnership with the National Center for
Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is a perfect match between the two
organizations, since Sprint customers have already demonstrated an affinity
for sending and receiving wireless messages. It’s very exciting that millions
of our customers have the opportunity to add their eyes to AMBER Alert
searches and potentially help save lives.”

Free wireless AMBER Alerts will be provided to customers on an opt-in
basis and delivered to Sprint PCS Phones capable of receiving text messages.
Sprint customers may sign up to receive the text message alerts by visiting
http://www.sprint.com or http://www.wirelessAMBERalerts.org and selecting up
to five zip codes. In the event of an AMBER Alert activation, customers who
have selected that zip-code area will receive notice through a wireless text
message.

“The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is pleased that
Sprint is joining the wireless industry to provide AMBER Alerts to their
customers,” said Ernie Allen, NCMEC president and CEO. “Delivering Alerts to
wireless phones will be a tremendous addition to our ongoing efforts to bring
more abducted children home.”
